“I just curious why their pricing is so much cheaper, compared to the TRS that you sent me.”
Send email before end of day with three pricing options (7-person triple+double+single, 6-person two triples, 4-person two doubles) for August 7–10. Follow up by Friday to confirm which group size and configuration Tori's team will commit to, then request legal names and $50-per-person deposits.
Full analysis
What happened
Tori called to finalize a group trip for 6–7 girls to an all-inclusive resort in Cancun (TRS) for the first week of August. She and Mandy reviewed three possible date windows (August 7–10, 8–11, 13–16), ultimately settling on August 7–10 after Tori remembered a special event at the resort. They discussed room configurations (triple vs. double occupancy) and pricing for scenarios ranging from 4 to 7 people. Tori raised concerns about hurricane season in August; Mandy provided experience-based reassurance that Dominican Republic might be safer but confirmed Mexico was the constraint due to her sister's internship schedule. A cheaper alternative resort (Royalton) was not available for those dates. Mandy committed to sending pricing for three room-configuration options before leaving for vacation, and Tori agreed to collect legal names and deposits from her group members. No booking was finalized on the call, but Tori demonstrated clear intent to proceed pending group confirmation.
Emotional read
Tori was conversational and patient throughout, showing understanding when Mandy mentioned being sick and behind. She remained engaged despite multiple pricing iterations, asking clarifying questions rather than becoming frustrated. She demonstrated confidence in the destination choice and was solution-oriented when dealing with uncertainty around group size.
Emotional arc through the call
Tori remained steady and polite throughout; she showed warmth when learning Mandy had COVID, but this did not derail her focus on trip logistics.
How customer sees Pavlus
- positive · appreciated Mandy's willingness to work quickly to lock down the trip before Mandy's vacation
- positive · acknowledged Mandy's travel experience and hurricane season knowledge as valuable
- neutral · accepted that Pavlus does not book domestic travel or Puerto Rico all-inclusive options
Value perception
Tori did not explicitly articulate Pavlus's value versus booking direct, but she engaged with Mandy's expertise on hurricane season and accepted that Pavlus does not compete in certain segments (domestic, Puerto Rico all-inclusive), suggesting she views Pavlus as specialized in international group travel.

Customer: Hello. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Hi, this is Mandy. Customer: Hi Mandy! This is Troy. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Hi, I'm so sorry. Life has just been nuts since I got back in the office. I'm behind. Anyway, I definitely do want to get this trip, you know, nailed down for you before I leave on vacation in a couple of weeks. Did you say there's something that's an, with what you need? Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: Yeah, so, originally it went back from six girls and seven girls. Basically, it's the dates I think we were actually looking now instead of late August that like first, kinda like that first week of August like a, a, the eighth through the eleventh. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Yeah, you said it would be either the. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): So it'd be like either August 7th through the tenth, eighth through the eleventh or thirteenth through the sixteenth were the three dates, combination. Customer: Yeah. Yeah, it was kinda just like, whatever, whatever was, you know, I don't know, what's like cheaper as far as you know, what the difference in prices are for the date, so I figured weekdays are usually cheaper but that's why I thought I'd ask you since you have experience with that. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Gotcha. Well, I did take a look at, at the TRS case, the hotel for those date combinations and for the four different date combinations that particular resort price is the same no matter what combination is. Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: Oh, okay. Okay, okay. Pretty much similar to, like we're, what we're looking for the twenty second through the whatever. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): It's pricing at like $328,650. I don't know what the previous prices were. We look what they were in. Customer: Okay, so for if we did the eighth through the eleventh, that's how much it's about. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Like yeah, so, yeah, it looks like it's coming up lower than what it was coming up for the September date I sent you. It's the, yeah, cause it, yeah, like I said all of those date combinations came up 3286. Customer: Yeah. Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: Okay, 32 yeah, that's definitely a lower than when we were doing later in the year or in the month. So, I see here you so curious about those kind of rooms and stuff. And he said that so when you say three rooms, two doubles and one trickle, what does that mean exactly? Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Yeah. Customer: Like two, like single beds and then one, yeah, just curious what that meant. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): So. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Yeah, for, if we did triple room, like you were talking about doing two and the pricing is for two triples that like you asked for two triple rooms is $328,650, meaning three people in the room. Exactly, mm-hmm, yeah. Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: Okay, like, three people in the room, basically. Mm-hmm mm-hmm. Customer: Okay. Yeah, cause I was gonna say what we could do and I don't know if the price matters but like when we were on the last trip I was we had three girls and, and I just stay with my sister in the, in the king bed and then somebody slept on the couch there. So I don't know if having like the king versus the queens are a different in pricing or how that works. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): It's just based on there being three people in the room. So, I could choose rooms with double beds or I could choose a king bed and you would have the couch like you had previously. It doesn't, it doesn't change the rate based on whether I choose double working at that resume. Customer: Oh, okay. Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: Okay. Okay, so it's on how, it's like, how many rooms, I guess? Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): It depends on how many people are occupying the room and how many people are taking advantage of the all inclusive amends, is how it's priced. Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: Okay. Okay. Okay, yeah, cause I think we're still in between who, how many girls are actually going or not. So. Customer: I'm gonna assume it's gonna be around less than that. Customer: But I'm gonna get them these prices, and then see just out of curiosity, if it's pretty it ends up being. Customer: Only four of us, so it'd be two in each room, would there be much of a difference or not really the price is kinda goes up for us? Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): There would be a slight difference. Let me just pull up the first set of dates with two doubles and see what happens to the price. There'll be just a second, just a. Customer: Okay. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Moment if you have a second to wait while I do that. Customer: Yeah, yeah, no, I do mm-hmm no worries. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Yeah, I'm missing almost a whole week really put you in a whole, and I apologize. Customer: Oh, I'm sure. Oh, no, you're good. I figured you were still sick. I was just like, I'm just like, oh, but she's going on vacation. Awesome. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Yeah. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Yeah, COVID is the worst, I mean, I guess that's the good thing and that if I'm going to get it, get it out of the way before I go on vacation. But I, you, yeah, that's why it was such a, a prolonged out but anyway, yeah, let's see and it's yeah, thanks, I mean and, you would think after you've had COVID several times you know, your fourth time around wouldn't be so bad but so no, so bad, let's see. Customer: Oh, dang you got, you got COVID. Oh. Customer: Oh, oh, I'm sorry. Customer: Glad you're feeling better. Customer: But no still then. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Makes it sound like I do crazy things and then I you know sick all the time but that's not junior sweet for you. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Okay. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): So, if it ends up, excuse me. If it only be, ends up being four people the rate goes down pretty dramatically cause it would be only $2,100 total. Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: Okay. Customer: Okay. No, I'm just curious because we have two yeah, we have two people that don't even have passwords. Yeah. And so we're kind of just like, okay, we're like four, we know four people can go on the strict like officially. So the other ones are kind of like, up in the air until we got pricing and figured all that out. So, that's what kind of determining, so, when it, so, when it comes to twelve, first of all the room that we have which is toll view, is that the same that I have that you booked for. Mm-hmm. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Gotcha. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Gotcha. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): No, these are pool view we, you had pool side, if you want to, yeah, one is gonna, you know, just that you can see the pool from wherever you are and the garden. Whereas pool side is like, you could like basically walk outside to the pool, right, I assume. Customer: Mm-hmm oh, what's the difference? Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: Yeah, yeah. Okay, I don't know if she cares but I can ask her what would be the difference between side? Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Pool view or I'm sorry, pool side would add $50 per room if we switched it. Customer: Okay, cool. Mm-hmm. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): To the doubles, I would have to check see what this triples but but yeah, so it's $100 more. Customer: Okay, cool, cool. Oh, oh, okay, per room. Okay, per room. Okay, alright. And then, okay, and then we were looking into that other one you sent me. Cause that one looks really good and I just, I'm just curious why their pricing is so much cheap for like, compared to not really, I was kind of looking into it a little bit but I don't know if you have heard of anything for us. Mm-hmm. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Mm-hmm. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): I did look that resort up for the date combinations you gave me in, in, in August and it wasn't available for any of them. So, I don't know if it's sold out in August or what but it, there was nothing available for any one of those or maybe they have a. Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: For, for the royal. The royal is. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): For, for the Royalton or yes, let me go back to the Royalton chick point to cana autograph collection. That one was not available for any of the new dates. Customer: Yeah. Customer: Okay. Customer: Oh, recently like after you sent the email to me. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): When I researched it earlier today, when I planned on calling you earlier today and then got sidetracked it was not available for those dates. Customer: Oh, okay. Mm-hmm mm-hmm. Customer: Okay. Okay, no problem. Okay, I feel like, I feel like we pretty much note here. So that's you know, we'd like it so it doesn't really bother us this other one doesn't work out but I wanted to look into if there was like the difference in places in canon. I know we were looking at the sand last time, I don't know if you have had other people with experiences of going over there recently but have, have been kind of died down. Customer: From what's been going on over there? Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): I, to be honest, I haven't booked a lot of Mexico but I'm not having people cancel them either, I haven't heard of anything. Customer: Okay. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Happening like I haven't heard anything in my newsletters that I get, you know what I mean like I haven't seen it being talked about. Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: Okay, do you think we could look at like the same one we're looking into last time is that they have any updates available for the, I think it was the fans we were going to go to before. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Yeah, just, yeah, let me let me just bring that up a. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Second, the booking system is a little slow, so it takes a minute to move from place to place, so it just, so you know, that, you know, I don't think I'm. Customer: Okay. Customer: Mm-hmm. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Let's see. Customer: Yeah, and I was also gonna ask your opinion on cause people keep telling me it's hurricane season and I'm like, well I don't think a hurricane gonna develop, you know, the second week of August so I wanted to get your experience on that and if it's common. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): August is a rough time for hurricane season. I'm not gonna lie it because I lived in the girl for next I lived in Mississippi. You know before I move where I live now and August was the big season for the goal from Mexico, so. Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: But what about, so then what about the Dominic. And I guess I'm just, I'm trying to figure out the, we're trying to figure out what's the best time. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Yeah, Dominican is a little I mean if the storm enters the goal from Mexico Dominican kind of on the outside. So generally, they're not, you know, what storms it's hard to say, I don't know but, but August is can be an ugly turning your hurricane season that things get canceled and, or flights get canceled and all of that. Customer: And you said, so you're saying it's more common in Mexico than it is in, I guess they can see okay. So, mm-hmm. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Yeah, although the storm has to enter, like enter the goal from Mexico around Florida and by Dominican. So if it, if it wasn't in already established storm then Dominican is fine. It usually builds in the go from Mexico. So for the month of August I feel like Dominican would be safer. The next step. There you go, that's my. Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: Okay, sorry that. Well that's soi five things for me it does cause my, I mean we were kind of, I mean the only problem is is this one person my sister wants to her to go on the trip is south that week I just gave you that's first week of August is the only time she's available for after an internship right before she starts college again. So we're like I guess like August is the only time so we're just yeah trying to figure out what the save this option is. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): I don't know if that does but. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): The dreams is more expensive anyway. Customer: When is August? Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): The dri. The dri. The dream, the dream is resort that we were gonna book in. Canco is more expensive. Customer: Oh, mm-hmm, oh, okay. Well, we'll screw, we don't need tank. That's okay, I think you know, I think TR is going to be fine. So I'll run that by my sister. And, and so when it comes down to us figuring out the final so what do you, what do you need from us in order to book the room as of right now? Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): So I would need legal names as they appear on ID or would appear on passports once they're acquired and I would also need deposit of $50 per person and and then final payment is 45 days prior to the departure. Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: Prior. Customer: Okay, let me cool. And the $50 is obviously taken out of the total price, correct? Yeah, yeah, yeah, the final okay. Okay, great. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Total. Yeah, it goes towards the final price. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): And that's refundable that $50 up until that final payment at $45. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Five. So, if. Customer: So, if we have to like change less than. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): If you had to, yeah, cancel it or well, yeah, as long as it's more than 45 days prior if you're like just kidding it all fell apart since this person, that person can't go we can cancel it and they can get the $50 per person back or if you have to you know lose room one and drop down number of rooms to do do that, yeah. Customer: Okay, so if it came down. Customer: Mm-hmm yes. So would that be would that be like a rebook then? Like if we lost the room, right? And so the three or if we lost people that like a cancel rebook situation. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): If we're using the same date and some of the same people then it's a modify but if it's but if you're canceling a whole room it would be of course, the cancellation of that room, right? Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: Okay. Customer: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Customer: Okay, cool. No, I just want to know just in case, I mean, I'm gonna talk to them and hopefully confirm everything and then. Customer: And then when's the, when's the last time to cancel, I mean we canceled like a month out this a like, I, oh, okay. So we have to pay 45 days total, plus okay. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): 45 days. So six weeks. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): I mean you can cancel after the 45 days but then there's gonna be like a, a percentage of the cost of the trip that would be charged based on how close you are to your departure. Customer: Mm-hmm yeah, true. Well I mean we're just think we're just looking the news about all the gas stuff so, I think I didn't know do you, I can't remember what you sent an email but have you ever handled stays in south hundred. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): In south laud right now, I honestly have not mm-hmm. Customer: Okay. Cause I know they don't really do like, I don't think they do for resorts. But just because it's only a quick drive from, it's like a six hour drive from where we're at. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Yeah. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): And save on the flights and all that stuff. Yeah, no, we don't, I don't book domestic travel hotel stays very much so I haven't done so. Customer: Okay, so you all don't do like. Customer: Poo. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Oh, no. We do put a Rico but there isn't, there, there isn't all inclusive hotels in Putri, I mean, they're hard to come by so and if there is they're very expensive. Customer: Okay, sounds like it's mm-hmm. Customer: Yeah, no, I. Customer: Yeah, okay, well this is good to know, I'm trying to think is there anything else? Do you think you could just, just I'm confirming can you just email me the seven people price I get it right. So the, I think we'll still go for the eighth through the eleventh and it's not I'll talk to them if dates need to be different but you said it's around the same anyway and then the just the different two to seven and the four people so the three rooms and then the two. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Sure. So the most recent email I had gotten from you was that it was going to be six people but we're thinking it'll either be 47. Customer: Yeah, and then my, and then my, yeah, my, my sister added somebody, somebody dropped and then she added one of my floor, she added Juliet actually. So, so Julie going or trying to go. So that's why I wouldn't back up to seven. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Oh, okay. Okay, cause the price I gave you of the $328,650 was based on six people, two triples. Customer: Oh, okay. Okay, yeah. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Because that's the last information I had available but I can give you prices for two triples or a triple and a quad or no, two triples. I'm sorry a triple 222 doubles or just two doubles. I can give you that three price combination. How does that sound? Customer: Totally. Customer: Well, so first up for seven people how many would that, it would have to be two rooms, right? Or I guess there's two people shared two beds. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): I believe at that resort triple is the largest amount that they allow in one room at the TR. Customer: Okay. Yeah, okay. Yeah, totally. Okay. Well, yeah, yeah, okay. Yeah, so list a couple of different options. Okay, yeah, so give me one for seven and it can be a triple. We can do triple double on a single. I guess, I can always in my sister room if it comes down to it then the price for the two triples for the six people and then the two doubles for the four. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Yeah, that would be a triple and 222. Customer: Sorry, there's so many prices but it's good, it's good that now. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Okay, and we think that August 11th is going to be the winter, like, that's the one that we think. Customer: There is, I believe let me, let me just double-check so that Saturday the eighth through the eleventh so it's Saturday through the eleventh. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Okay. Perfect, alright, well then I will, but like I said, the pricing didn't very much like, for this resort for all those day combinations. So, if I give you these prices and we move it a day or two, I mean, I don't think it's gonna be a big difference. Customer: Yeah. Customer: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): But I will, but I'll do the eighth for those combination mm-hmm. Customer: Okay, great. Yeah, I think the old I think okay, yeah, I think the only other thing we're looking at look like a, a Thursday to the, that Sunday instead. But that was really, I think that was really, oh, and just at least going through part of the weekend we just didn't know which day we would start. Well actually, hold on one second. Customer: I lied, can we? Customer: Can we actually do the seventh? Customer: 81. Customer: Okay, yeah, the seventh through the tenth instead because there was an event at the TRS that we missed because we can come in on a Friday. So actually, let's, let's see if we can do that. So the seventh through the tenth. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Okay, perfect. Customer: Sorry I forget about that. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): No worries I know I got it. So we're gonna do two triples 1222 doubles and just two doubles the three combinations of pricing for the seventh through the tenth got it, okay, I'm on it. I will get it over to you before I leave tonight. Uh-huh. Customer: Yeah, mm-hmm mm-hmm. Customer: Okay, and then thanks. And then one more thing. Just so I can confirm with my, the girls at what point do you need actual ID numbers? Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): The resort actually doesn't require it so. Customer: Sorry for the, oh, okay. So they don't need the passport show the day they're flying like, you don't need the, their passport information. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Are you? Not, no, not unless I'm booking airfare for you. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): So. Customer: I guess you do need it to book flights. Don't you? Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): I needed to book flights, yes actually you can book a flight without it and add it to the ticket later so you can book a flight if you don't have it. Customer: Okay. That's what I thought. Mm-hmm. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Because I know that they may not. So anyway, yeah, if you wanna, I mean, you can still move forward with the trip but you wanna make sure that anyone who doesn't have a password is gonna have it you know prior to the trip. So they want to expedite and that sort. Customer: Okay. Customer: Yeah, yeah, I told them originally the a, of the year like this is we're thinking about going like you all start getting on it if you guys are gonna go, if not at least having one's helpful right? So I'm just kind of waiting for that but yeah, I will get back to you about that and let you know I'm sure things will change honestly like I don't believe 77 gonna go but I'll keep you updated about it. I'll try to get at least the downpayments done. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Sort. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Okay. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Perfect! Well, I am in the office tomorrow until I'm here, you know up until Thursday basically until six. So, so hopefully, we'll get together this week. Yup. Customer: Okay, great, yeah, yeah, I'll just hopefully and then if there's somebody to contact if like when you are out of town and we need to like do something or change something. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Yeah, you just called the main number. The one that's on my email or my out of office. The 8666 or I'm sorry, the 800 number and just let them know that you're looking to make a change in. Any one of the travel planners here can help you, we're, we help each other out. Yeah, so. Customer: Okay. Customer: Okay, 22. Customer: Okay, okay, that's great. Yeah, I was like, just in case somebody like pulls out I can, you know, tell them. Okay, great, alright, well, I appreciate your help. Thank you, glad you're feeling better. Okay, alright, you too, see you. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Yup. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Okay, oh, thanks so much. You have a good day. Agent (Mandy Mac Mullin): Bye-bye.
