Before the next conversation, compile a comparison of Viking Australia/New Zealand river and small-ship options against 1–2 alternative operators Richard might consider (e.g., Uniworld, Scenic), including extension options and pricing. Schedule a call in 2–3 weeks to discuss findings and confirm December 2027 itinerary details.
Full analysis
What happened

Richard called to follow up on an onboard booking he made for an Australia trip in December 2027 with a $25 deposit. He was delighted with his recent river cruise in the Netherlands and wanted to confirm Pavlus received the new booking details. Susan confirmed she received both the onboard booking and had sent invoices. Richard expressed some confusion about the payment timeline—he believed the onboard offer promised a sixty-day final payment window, but the actual terms showed June 12, 2027 as final payment (approximately five and a half months before departure). The agent and customer collaboratively clarified this may have been a six-month window rather than sixty days. Richard was satisfied with the confirmation and indicated he may make changes once he and his travel companion complete more research on which cruise operator is best for Australia/New Zealand.

Emotional read

Richard is relaxed, satisfied, and conversational throughout. He's reflecting positively on a recently completed trip and speaking with genuine appreciation about the experience. He remains calm and methodical when discussing payment terms and booking logistics, though there's a mild undercurrent of uncertainty about whether he got the best deal. No frustration or anxiety detected.

Emotional arc through the call

Remained consistently warm and satisfied throughout; no notable shift from opening pleasantries through booking logistics to call closure.

How customer sees Pavlus
  • positive · confirmed receipt of onboard booking and sent both Pavlus and Viking invoices promptly
  • positive · willing to work through agent for future itinerary or pricing changes
  • neutral · agent offered to advise on Viking popularity and excursion options for Australia/New Zealand, but customer wants to research independently first
Value perception

Richard believes the onboard booking promotion—which locks in prices with a $25 deposit and delays payment for approximately six months—is valuable because 'you don't, they don't hold your money for a year' like standard bookings. However, he's still somewhat uncertain whether this is actually the best deal and wants to compare other operators.

Customer: Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Tra travel, this is Susan.
Customer: Yeah, good morning Susan, it's Richard cab. How are you?
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, I'm good. How are you Richard, are you back?
Customer: I'm good. We gave, we came back yesterday. Well it was a very nice trip. Thank you and we locked out we had, we got to see all the tulips and the cook and have garden. So that was, yeah, that was, that was something and we and we enjoyed you know the rest of it I like little towns I like going to Bruce and spending the day there you know, and we'll look that. So it was, it was nice, it wasn't too long and worked out fine and flying from LA onK. LM as in a nice treat. I even know I had to pay more for it because we bumped up but it was the flight there it's night airline they you know, they feed you well and they, and they, and this and the seats are room so that worked out I had a quick question for you.
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, okay. Okay, welcome back. Mm-hmm.
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, yeah. Nice, nice.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yes, it is.
Agent (Susan Bender): Uh-huh.
Agent (Susan Bender): Uh-huh.
Agent (Susan Bender): Cool, yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): I'm glad sure.
Customer: While we're on the boat, they were kept hyping that you know, if you've sign-up and just kind of book a trip with a $25 deposit. You don't pay anything before six months before the trip and this way, you know, locking the prices. So we kind of did that on this trip to to Australia. But I think we have a travel agent who said that's, okay, we have to call the both, you know, the director we have to call Viking, you know, desk that's, you know, that's what we have to call to book it but they'll always pass it on to you. So I just wanted to make sure that they notified you and that you're, you know, our travelers, all that uh-huh.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, I did receive it. I received a booking, an onboard booking and I sent you an Pavlus. Invoice and the Viking invoice. Yeah, late yesterday afternoon. So you should have it, hopefully.
Customer: Okay.
Customer: Oh, okay. Okay, so I'll take a look. Yeah, I just, we went to sleep but we go, we went, he was very tired. So I'll take a look at it but the thing is because of the, you know, if you give them that $25, they said you don't have to pay until sixty days before the trip. So you have, yeah, we have a lot of time to adjust it with.
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, I bet. Yeah, yeah, I bet.
Agent (Susan Bender): Sixty days is what they told you. Wow.
Customer: Before you don't pay before sixty days instead of, it's usually like, this way that was the attraction. That this way you don't, they don't hold your money for a year. Like we booked it. I think the date we gave them was December 2027, so it's over a year, you know, so.
Agent (Susan Bender): Let me look. Let me.
Agent (Susan Bender): Let me just check can I, can I just check for a moment? Make sure. Okay.
Customer: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): This is the one that begins December 9th 2027. Okay. Okay, let me just open up this attachment.
Customer: Right.
Agent (Susan Bender): Okay, shows final payment due June 12th, that's more than sixty days. I've never seen it for sixty days so close to departure.
Customer: 212 by 2027 or two. June 12th, 2020 Ju 122020 so June, July, August, September, October, November so it's six. Oh, okay, so maybe, right? So maybe it's six months before I know that would make sense. That wouldn't be a good deal.
Agent (Susan Bender): 20272027 that's about five and a half months, it's not sixty day.
Agent (Susan Bender): I have heard of six months, I see six months here and there, but I've never seen sixty days. That's really, really.
Customer: Yeah.
Customer: I'll ask or like maybe they were maybe six months in advance. But usually if you just book it without that code, you have to pay a lot more. You know they hold your money a lot longer than that. They would you know want payment sooner, so it seems like okay, that you know, but anyhow I just wanted to make sure that you had it because we'll you know, in case we want to change it or something where like the air you know. I told them okay, put. Right okay, so I'll work through cause we'll probably make changes. I don't know maybe we'll pay you know if prices may, who knows what will happen, they'll go up, go down. So, maybe best, yeah, yeah. I got to tell you the flight going out on the twelfth who who's full. There wasn't a seat available. The flight coming back. The name sedan was more than half empty.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, sometimes they on.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Right.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): You contact me. Yes. Okay. Okay, sounds good.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, I know it's crazy right now.
Agent (Susan Bender): Wow.
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, wow, huh.
Customer: And I asked the AIright the flight attendant and she said yeah, I don't know it's not like you know, holiday or did or something. It's just a lot of people. Just the prices started going up I guess and they decided nothing to go. So, it's a little bit and nerve wracking anyhow I just wanted to make sure that you got all the information at this point, okay.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, I did and thank you for checking. I appreciate it. Yeah, I'm glad you guys had a good time.
Customer: That's okay. Yeah, it was nice, so if you, but the only, the only other thing and I won't bother you today but I'll ask you when we, we've done some research on my wrong is you, you've had kind of other customers who have gone to Australia, New Zealand, so you might have a better sense of, of which tour is best to take you know, maybe it's not biking, maybe we should be doing something else so, you know, I'll talk to you another time.
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, yeah, that's okay. That's okay. I can tell you Viking is very, very popular for Australia, New Zealand. They offer some good good extensions and excursions and things that's what people seem to like about it but you check it out. Let me know if you want something different.
Customer: Okay.
Customer: Yeah.
Customer: Oh, okay. Alright, okay, and I'll let you know. Yeah, cause I, you know, you're kind of doing it on the boat and I said, well, maybe, you know, we haven't given that much thought about it other than we want to go and we haven't research enough, I said, but let's book this thing, cause I think we get some, you know, a couple of hours here or there so, you know, it helps. Okay. Yeah. Alright, well thanks and have a good day. Bless of your day.
Agent (Susan Bender): Uh-huh.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, you do, you get the onboard booking benefits. Yes. Okay. Well, thank you and you do the same. Thanks for calling. Take care.
Customer: You're welcome, bye-bye.
