Full analysis
What happened

Richard called back to discuss travel insurance coverage before booking. His primary concern is whether Pavlus's travel insurance policy will cover claims related to his pacemaker (a pre-existing condition). He's attempting to get clarity from Chase about their credit card insurance before deciding whether to purchase Pavlus's separate policy. Susan advised him not to take chances and suggested he verify card coverage first. Richard committed to visiting Chase today or tomorrow, then calling Pavlus back Friday morning to purchase the policy if needed. No booking was finalized on this call, but Richard signaled clear intent to move forward with insurance by week's end.

Emotional read

Richard is pragmatic and busy (daughter visiting from New Orleans), somewhat scattered in his communication style, but engaged and appreciative. He's methodical about the insurance question despite his rambling delivery—he plans to visit his bank in person and will circle back by Friday. He appreciated Susan's advice and thanked her twice at the end.

Emotional arc through the call

Started somewhat scattered and stressed (busy day, daughter visiting), but warmed noticeably after Susan provided reassuring guidance on the pre-existing condition risk, ending the call genuinely grateful and more confident.

How customer sees Pavlus
  • positive · thanked Susan specifically for answering his question and appreciated her opinion on insurance coverage
  • positive · confirmed Susan would be in the office Friday and trusted her availability for the follow-up call
Value perception

Richard sees value in the Pavlus policy at $428 per person and is willing to purchase it as a safety net if his credit card insurance won't cover pre-existing conditions. He's comparison-shopping against his Chase Reserve card benefits ($850 annual fee with $300 travel credit rebate, effectively $200/month net cost).

Agent (Susan Bender): Hi Richard. That was quick. Thank you for calling back.
Customer: Yeah, no that's, I was, my daughter came up from, our, daughter came up from New Orleans for couple of days so we're kinda what, we're busy. She's off with somebody a little bit but I anyhow, I can't get a straight answer from I call chase, I called the, I try to find out who the insurance is that make right the policy for that for that credit card but I can't get a strat but I guess I'm gonna go over to but I can't do it today. I.
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh.
Agent (Susan Bender): Uh-huh.
Customer: I, if I can't get a straight answer from them and I think it, who's us to buy the policy by Friday on Friday you know. And, and just, and so, so my question to you is, are you in the office on Friday, are you working Friday so, if I give you a call in the morning we can just do it cause it's not that expensive. Then when I think, yeah, I, it's 428 or something, a person. It's probably that, that's probably a fair price. I think we paid for one before anyhow so, I'll do that if I can't get an answer then but I'm gonna go in either later today or tomorrow to the office and speak to the bank manager in my, what in chase, you know, by me and if they can't get me an answer, then I, and there's no nothing written that it's not because in reality, now I don't have a problem, well, in the in the sense, I do, I'm living with a mechanical thing but it's, you know, I can be.
Agent (Susan Bender): Right.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yes, yes. Oh, yes, yes, absolutely.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Right.
Agent (Susan Bender): I, and I'm, you don't, I'm no insurance expert, we're not supposed to get involved with insurance, but in my opinion, it sounds like it would be considered, they're gonna say if something happened and you need to file a claim due to anything to do with your pacemaker or your stance. They're gonna say, well, that's pre existing, you know, that's, and, and hard issues, are, are usually something not to be taken lightly, I mean, I'm glad you're all fixed up now and you're doing, doing well. But I wouldn't take any chances. You know. I just wouldn't but see what your card company says if you can.
Customer: Yeah, yeah, right.
Customer: Yeah.
Customer: Yeah, yeah.
Customer: Yeah.
Customer: Yeah.
Customer: Yeah.
Customer: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, so I think.
Customer: I just because you know I pay a premium. I have the chase reserve a preferred, a not preferred reserve so we pay like $850 I think so, maybe $500 because we knew that if we have the insurance coverage on top they give you back $3 hundred of it every. Cause if you use it for any kind of travel expenses you get that back. So, it's really only like $200 a month thousand you're getting this insurance. But I thought that's a good deal but if it doesn't work for me then I can switch it to them what their card is called the other one below it is a preferred and I think that's only 95 thous here. So that you know, anyhow I, I'm gonna find out either today or tomorrow. And then in which case I will then will you bye by Friday the latest in the morning and I'll let you know, okay?
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh.
Agent (Susan Bender): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Susan Bender): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Susan Bender): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Let me know.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yes, I will be here. Oh, my pleasure. Yeah, yeah, that's my opinion. Okay, well let me know. Thanks again. Take care. Bye-bye.
Customer: Thank you so much for answering it. Yeah, it makes sense what you said. Yeah, yeah. Alright, bye-bye.
Customer: Yeah, thank you. Bye-bye I will bye-bye.
