Send the hold proposal with all three code scenarios (SS26, 7B26, A250) and flight class pricing breakdown (economy, premium economy, business) via email before end of business today. Call Sherry tomorrow to confirm the proposal and take payment by card for the deposit, ensuring the six-month payment plan is applied to her existing booking.
Full analysis
What happened

Sherry called with her travel companion Barbara Jean to finalize a Viking River cruise on the Danube departing September 5, 2027. She had already narrowed decisions: standard cabin (choosing the cheaper option between F and E), travel protection yes, no extensions, and was investigating flight class options (economy, premium economy, business). She brought three promotional codes and expressed concerns about one heavily advertised code that others reported didn't work. Agent Taylor confirmed cabin location differences were minimal, explained code strategy (some overlap with agency discounts), clarified that the 7B26 booked-guest code only applies to one traveler, and recommended the A250 code as best. Taylor offered to get price quotes for different flight classes. Taylor collected Barbara Jean's full details (passport name, DOB, email, phone, address) and committed to sending a hold proposal via email before end of business that day, with follow-up call tomorrow for payment by card. Sherry confirmed interest in the six-month payment plan tied to her existing booking.

Emotional read

Sherry was collaborative and methodical throughout, working through details with patience and humor (joking about the agent being on another call). She demonstrated confidence in her research (citing Facebook Viking groups and prior trips) and was willing to defer to the agent's expertise on code strategy. Her tone remained engaged and positive, though she expressed mild frustration about prior bad experiences with Viking's customer service.

Emotional arc through the call

Sherry began the call methodical and slightly cautious (wanting to verify dates and cabin differences), grew more engaged as she walked through research findings and promotional codes, and ended warm and collaborative, offering companion details and confirming next steps.

How customer sees Pavlus
  • positive · appreciated agent's transparency about code strategy: 'if it doesn't work for some reason I will at least layout what I can' and willingness to match or exceed advertised promotions
  • positive · valued agent's process of consulting 'my Viking guy' for holds and promo code verification because 'he has the ins and outs and everything that I might not think about'
  • positive · expressed confidence in the agency's ability to handle flight comparisons: 'I can do that' when asked to quote economy, premium economy, and business class options
Value perception

Sherry sees value in Pavlus's code verification and onboard-credit strategy versus booking direct with Viking. She noted frustration with receiving bad information directly from Viking (regarding premium economy lounge access), and appreciates the agency's willingness to research and cross-check multiple promotions rather than simply accepting one advertised code.

Closing technique

Attempt: soft   Outcome: deferred_commitment   Payment: discussed

Close language used:

  • “what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna get started on this”
  • “I will most likely have this to you right before I leave for the day. So, it'll hold until Thursday. But we'll talk tomorrow. Does that sound like a plan?”
  • “I will get to work on this and I will be in touch”

Signals the agent didn't act on:

  • customer said 'yes yes' emphatically to travel protection question but agent never pivoted to confirming final commitment or taking deposit at that moment
  • customer mentioned 'I have my friend' and exchanged detailed contact info, signaling readiness to finalize, but agent did not attempt to take card or lock booking in the call

Customer: Hello.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Hello. Sorry about that. I was getting off a call. I was a little delayed but I tried to time it up perfectly.
Customer: It's okay, I looked at at the time and I said she's probably on a call with somebody.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Yeah, no I appreciate that I shot you an email just because I was like I think this might go over but we wrapped it up so that's all good. So so talk to me what are, what are we looking at?
Customer: Oh.
Customer: Okay. We, we've gotten things narrowed down number one. My, my friend did not go on Viking so we can, you don't even have to look into that.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Okay.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Okay.
Customer: Number two, we decided on which cruise we want and the dates that we want.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Oh, perfect. Okay.
Customer: It's a romantic Daniel.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Alright.
Customer: And the one that is on October 5th. Nope, September. I need September. I keep right in October, September. Was it 27? We better make sure I got the right month than I'm looking at here. Oh, my goodness.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): September 5th, 2027 or September 26th.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): That's what I thought, just make sure.
Customer: Uh-oh real that date, hang on. Yeah, September 5th two. So, okay, and then I want to know if, you know the difference. We want swan room with standard room because it doesn't make that much difference, I, and they're bigger than the French balcony rooms but what's the difference between the standard F and the standard E. Which is $100 more?
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Okay, that's fine.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Okay.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Location and honestly it doesn't matter you're a little bit further forward. I believe so if that if that bothers you for some reason I would definitely recommend doing the next one up, but honestly I would go with whatever's best located.
Customer: Okay, I.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): But they're all located on the same deck so you're really just a little further forward or a little further back.
Customer: Okay, well then you can just get us the cheapest one.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Okay, that works.
Customer: Okay, I know you want, yeah, we're getting there. That was my next question.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): What about airfare?
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Okay.
Customer: First of all I've been reading a lot of stuff on a Facebook you know from on bike Viking groups and they say like that when you have to pay the $150 extra for Viking to coordinate with flights they say it really isn't necessary most times because ninety days before you get your flights and then there's a drop down where you can change flights or change seats. I've done the change seat and see, see if you can get a better if you're not happy with what they have.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Yeah.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Yes.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Yes.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): That's true. Yeah, and if you're, you know, you can always technically add it on and then change it, you know what I mean. It doesn't necessarily, you don't necessarily need to add it, you know, but the only thing I would consider paying attention to is ticketing. Now once you're assigned the schedule you can be ticketed at anytime and what that means is essentially it kinda locks you in, in a way and the $350 per person change penalty. So I would be a little bit cautious about adding air, if you want AirPlus I'd add it and use it if you don't know. And you wanna wait until that schedule. I would make sure that as soon as that schedule comes out that you jump on it. You know what I mean? I wouldn't sit there and, and, yeah, that's just my, that's my only concern.
Customer: Yeah.
Customer: Okay. So we do need we are trying to figure out if we want regular coats or if we want premium coach or business class which is probably prohibitive but since we're saving money getting a standard room we might go for it. But before we do that, before we do that I have to ask you about codes.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Okay.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Sure.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Mm-hmm.
Customer: About codes, you know, the, yes, cause I have three of them and.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Like promo code.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Okay, we can look at all of them. I so just so you know my process I will take what you've given me here and I send it to my Viking guy and he does the hold for me. Mainly because he has the ins and outs and everything that I might not think about right? And so when he calls me I will give him all those codes and he'll check for us.
Customer: Okay, because what I wanted to tell you was, there was one I really like code wise a Vikings been advertising for days on Facebook about this code and then on the groups on Facebook, they say I tried that code and it didn't work and, and I'd be really annoyed cause they've been advertising it all you know for days.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): You're right.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Sure, I understand and that's something. What code is it?
Customer: That one is SS 26.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Oh, interesting. Ing, I've never heard of that one but we can try it.
Customer: It's free silver spirits and $800 onboard credit.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Okay, here's the only thing I'm a little concerned about.
Customer: Okay.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Sometimes other companies will advertise as-is their own codes and give you some onboard credit of their own. And so I what I'll do is I'll see if it applies but if it doesn't, for some reason I will at least layout what I can, but some you know if they're offering $800 I can already offer $500. And then on top of that I can do our $300. So total I'm able to give you $800. Plus the silver spars. Package. So it probably ends up coming out to be about the same.
Customer: Mm-hmm.
Customer: Okay, well.
Customer: The ad looks like it's from Viking. Now they may be seeking, they may be sneaking.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): I know it out. Yup, I, I've come across this code before which is the only reason why I'm hesitating.
Customer: Okay. Well, I have two other codes to give you.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Okay, what are those?
Customer: One is for a book guest and that's seven B. 26.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Yes.
Customer: And then I have a third one. I just saw today for silver spirits and 500 onboard credit. And that one was, that one is A2 fifty, yeah.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): A2 fifty.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Yeah. Okay, that's probably going to be the best one but we can definitely, so essentially one, the one for booked guest it gives you $250 discount per person instead of onboard credit. So I don't know which one you necessary and it's only for the person that is booked. So, for example, if only one of you has a future travel with Viking, then that is the only person that's going to get the discount.
Customer: Oh, okay. Well, that's sneaky too.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): So, that's kind of, I think the A2 fifty is gonna be your best bet.
Customer: Well, I just found that one today so I'm glad I did.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): And I would have, I have some. So I always send those as well. I just like to see what you're looking at just to make sure I didn't miss anything.
Customer: Okay, so those are the three codes I have. So now, now that will be, I gave you those. Then yeah, we did want to find out on the flight how much they would be different levels and you know we might, we.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Okay.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): That's fine. I can do that. Do you want to start with one versus like, do you want me to put economy on there and then the upgrade to business class?
Customer: Well, I don't know I wanted, I wanted to book economy but I wanted to know how much the premium economy and the business and the business call. Okay, okay cause I.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): That's fine. Oh, I can do that too. Yup, I can do that. Yes, now, oh, go ahead, sorry. I keep cutting you off.
Customer: Well, I did get premium economy on one of my Viking trips but I book right through Viking and I really was just functional. I really didn't know how much extra I paid for the premium economy. And the guy I talked to Viking gave me bad information because I asked him if I get premium economy, do I get access to lounges and he said yes and it wasn't true.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Sure.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Oh.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Mm-hmm yeah, that's, yeah, that's unfortunate.
Customer: So anyway, so those are, do you have any other questions? B-J no, I, so those are all zero queues, New York and the last trip, I took, the last trip I took in June with them, they flew us from Syracuse to, to LaGuardia to Boston and then bar salon.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Where do you want to fly from?
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Hause. Okay.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): And mm-hmm.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Okay.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Oh, okay.
Customer: Yeah, and we weren't happy with that but I don't know Viking does biking does what biking can. And I had a AAA travel person and that she called them and if we changed it would have been $900 extra per person.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): I understand why. Yeah.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Absolutely.
Customer: So, so we went with that.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Okay, okay, let me look here. Okay, so essentially what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna get started on this. The only, I have two questions, do you want travel protection?
Customer: Yes, yes.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): And then, do you want any extensions?
Customer: No, she just wants to go, my friend just wants to go on an eight day trip no more, okay.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Okay.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Okay. Okay, sounds good.
Customer: And we looked the reason we chose those two trips was because there's two days in the beginning at the cities. So that if our flight late coming in, we didn't have to go a day earlier do an extension.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Right.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Absolutely. Okay. Well this is all I need to get started then I really appreciate you and your patience with me as I got that we set up a phone call. But what I'm gonna do is, oh, you know what?
Customer: What you're going to be on, you're gonna be close, the office is gonna be closed soon.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Who is?
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): It is, yes, but I'm, it's not till Thursday. So I'm gonna hold this and it'll hold and I'll send it to you via email. And if all looks good you can call me with your card who so I have sherry, I have your information. Do I have everyone do I have everyone's information? I'm looking.
Customer: Okay.
Customer: No, no, you don't have any, I'm gonna pan the phone to my friend. B-J.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Okay. Sounds good. I need a passport name.
Customer: Okay, it's Barbara. Jean bran B-R-A-N-G.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Perfect, date of birth.
Customer: 412-1943.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): And then a good email address for you.
Customer: B-J bran @gmail.com.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): And your phone number?
Customer: 315-427-6102.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): And your address?
Customer: Seven, Eli E L Y drive Fayetteville, New York.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Okay. Your zip.
Customer: 131-3066.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Perfect. Okay, that's all I need then, I will get started on this. I will most likely have this to you right before I leave for the day. So, it'll hold until Thursday. But we'll talk tomorrow. Does that sound like a plan?
Customer: Oh.
Customer: Okay, yes and I did wanna make sure we get the six month payment thing.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Yeah since you have an existing one, we'll get that taken care of for you.
Customer: Okay, great.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): Awesome, well thank you so much. I will get to work on this and I will be in touch.
Customer: Okay, thank you. Bye-bye.
Agent (Taylor Bazzoni): My pleasure, bye-bye.
