Call Joan Friday morning at 9:30 AM Eastern (6:30 AM Arizona time) to confirm her and Linda's booking decision, and process payment/deposits for whichever date(s) and stateroom she selects. Prepare two price quote emails (March 4th and April 25th, both penthouse veranda) to send before the call so she can review with her sister overnight.
Full analysis
What happened

Joan called to inquire about the Greek Odyssey river cruise for April, mentioning she and her husband are repeat Pavlus customers. She saw a promotional flash sale ending August 9th on Facebook but wasn't sure of the promo code. The agent (Nick) explained the flash sale applied only to Viking river cruises and offered alternative promos through end of month. Joan confirmed April 27th was her preferred date, but the agent found only April 25th available; he also mentioned March 4th and May 14th alternatives. Joan raised concerns about weather and crowds, and the agent assured her April was ideal timing pre-summer rush. The conversation then shifted to detailed stateroom selection—Joan was confused about which categories matched her preferences, and discovered the Nordic penthouse she wanted was sold out, so they explored deluxe veranda and penthouse veranda options with specific pricing ($8,899–$10,899 per guest in April, $6,699 in March). Joan expressed surprise at the price difference between the printed brochure and live quotes, and the agent explained Viking's dynamic pricing. Joan said she needed to consult her sister Linda (a co-traveler and existing Pavlus customer) before finalizing. The agent offered to place price holds for both March and April dates to show her the costs, and they agreed he would call her Friday morning at 9:30 AM Eastern (6:30 AM her Arizona time) after she'd had a chance to speak with her sister.

Emotional read

Joan started cautiously optimistic but became slightly frustrated when encountering pricing discrepancies between the brochure and agent quotes. She warmed considerably as the agent clarified options and showed genuine interest in helping. By call end, she was engaged and committed, ready to make a decision after a quick sister consultation.

Emotional arc through the call

Joan started engaged but slightly frustrated when discovering pricing didn't match her brochure, then warmed as the agent patiently explained stateroom options and dynamic pricing, ending the call committed and planning to finalize after consulting her sister.

How customer sees Pavlus
  • positive · mentioned she and husband have 'traveled with you several times' and are repeat customers
  • positive · acknowledged receiving Pavlus magazines regularly and seeing their Facebook promotions
  • neutral · noted agent Nick called earlier (around 11:30 AM) and left a voicemail that didn't come through or she missed
Process friction
  • customer missed agent's earlier voicemail call at 11:30 AM Eastern; unclear if technical failure or customer oversight
Value perception

Joan questioned the pricing discrepancy between Viking's printed advertising and the agent's live quotes, but accepted the agent's explanation that pricing is dynamic. She explicitly noted March is 'much cheaper' than April and seemed price-conscious but willing to pay more for better weather/timing.

Attempt: soft   Outcome: deferred_commitment   Payment: discussed

Close language used:

  • “we could do a price hold today. There's no commitment on your part but it allows me to at least secure spacing and pricing for you for 72 hours”
  • “I can send you over an accurate price quote to advise, hey, like this is what this trip would cost for you in April”
  • “I could at least get a price hold placed for you for at least one of these dates and state rooms to get you an idea about pricing”
  • “I'll hold off on placing the price holds and then we can just chat tomorrow morning and decide if we wanna move forward”

Signals the agent didn't act on:

  • customer said 'I definitely want to do it' but agent accepted deferral without attempting to take a deposit or verbal commitment for either specific date/stateroom

Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Travels is Nick.
Customer: Hi, Nick. My name is Joey sandy young. My husband and I have traveled with you several times. Anyway, we are interested in the Greek Odyssey trip or next April.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Hey John.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Okay.
Customer: I don't, I don't know if there, so let me just put it to. Alright, I was looking at one of your magazines which I get on the regular so then I was online on Facebook and it said to me that you have a special going on and oh, it's pre a pair and whatever anyway, that ends on the ninth.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah.
Customer: This is a biking trip. Anyway, I don't have that in front of me but I have the book that just came yesterday. So, maybe, you could help me with this.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah, absolutely. Let me go and get this pulled up now for you. So we got the summer flash sale and then I would apologize. I did call you earlier around 11:30 Eastern Time. I don't know if it just didn't go through or what but I was able to leave that voicemail for you.
Customer: I don't have any recollect. I don't have it on my phone. I mean I had my phone in my pocket but I haven't seen a call come through, so.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah, yeah. No, I did. I know I looked at the voicemail left you earlier so must, just, hey, wires must have getting crossed I guess.
Customer: Yeah, can happen I guess.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah, so I tried the flash in the ninth. Are you, do you see that promo code, what it is?
Customer: No! I don't because I found it on Facebook, but now that I see, I don't have that one in front of me but I have the book in front of me.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah, okay.
Customer: The one that, this one, that I saw, another one that ends on the 31st of August, but the one I saw on Facebook ends on August 9th.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Okay, the one that I think the end of the nine, that one specific to river cruisers for Viking, so, I don't think that one's gonna apply but they do have other promos that go until the end of the month, that do offer some savings and some good airfare discount. So, I'm gonna try one of those. Okay.
Customer: Yeah, I thought when I, when I saw that promo, I was interested, because I, my sister and I had been talking a couple of weeks ago about doing this and so I thought, wow, that's, I mean and I looked it up and I thought that the bite is the ocean cruise that we're looking at was included in that.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Mm-hmm, yeah.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Potentially. Yeah, yeah. So what was the date that you were interested for the Greek Odyssey?
Customer: I don't have, I'm not able to look at the dates but I, it would be, we're talking about 27th of April.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): April 27th okay, so right now, yup.
Customer: Do you know, is and the one of the, one of the things that comers me is I don't want to go when it's too hot and when the crowds are heavy. So, I'm wondering if April is a good time or is may a better time make it's kind of busy for us but it's also a choice I guess.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah, I think April is a really good. I think April will be a really great time to visit based off what you had mentioned, cause we're right before the big summer rush of travel and we're still going to be in springtime now granted Mediterranean. So it stays fairly fairly, you know, hot, not hot. This, it has keeps nice temperature all year around but you would avoid the middle of the summer heat for sure. So, I think April is a good time looking at this itinerary right now. The only date they have available for April is the 25th of April. Do you think that would work for you?
Customer: Yes, yes.
Customer: I guess we can make it work is getting later. The reason I'm Taing on that is that we go to Arizona in the winter and usually come home about, usually come home about the 1st of May but I guess that's fine I guess we could do that and this pack up and leave them and, and just come home.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Okay.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah, so what I think makes the most sense Jon is we could do a price hold today. There's no commitment on your part but it allows me to at least secure spacing and pricing for you for 72 hours and I can send you over an accurate price quote to advise, hey, like this is what this trip would cost for you in April. We only have the one date on the twenty fifth. There is a departure date in may. Which should be the fourteenth and then they also have one date in March to be March 4th. I think all three of those would be good options for you. But do you think the April 25th date would be best for you or you want to look at may?
Customer: Okay.
Customer: Well, I mean I think and realistically we could do any one of those. I don't, I don't know, I don't know why it didn't really consider March but I guess that kind of happened too. My sister and her husband are going to go with. Is, is it getting really booked.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): I can check that out as we get deeper into the process but there is only one date for all three of those months. I will say the March date is cheaper than April. It looks like the April 1st is a little more expensive now both of these with the promo code, it doesn't offer free airfare but it does offer discounted airfare. So that is one thing to keep in mind as well.
Customer: Okay.
Customer: Okay.
Customer: Yeah the one that I saw online offer it was three-year fair.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah, they always run those just for the biking, always does and it Ito me. But they always advertise free air but it's actually up to free air. And it's based off of specific itineraries and in potential gateway cities. Just right now, I'm showing just the discounted airfare but I just wanted to make you aware that as we move forward in the process. Okay.
Customer: Okay.
Customer: Okay. Yes, thank you.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): So we can do April 25th then.
Customer: Just, just out of curiosity, how much cheaper is the March 1st?
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Mm-hmm well first question before I answer that is, do you know what type of state room you'd be interested in?
Customer: Well, my husband was looking at them and he.
Customer: The thing is I couldn't, it has branded, branded delux in penthouse Branda. And, and then when I looked at them in the back of the block, I'm trying to get there, I couldn't quite see, I couldn't quite see it said delux nor northern balcony in nor pent house. So, I didn't know if those were which that was equal to.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Mm-hmm, yeah.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah, so the deluxe veranda and that, that's kinda, that's kinda like the entry. It's where a lot of my guest book when it comes to va ocean cruises. It's gonna be your standard. It's like 200.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): And fifty square feet. I'm gonna double-check my cell 270 square foot size room and then they offer a lot of different classes of the deluxe veranda from like a DV six all the way up to a DV one. And the biggest difference between all of those is going to be the location on the ship itself. The rooms are the exact same though they just price the rooms more locations at a higher price point within the deluxe Anda category. And then if we were to look at rooms higher up on that we move into the penthouses which is just gonna be a, a larger room and it's still gonna offer you a balcony and then you look at you could look at like a ten house junior suite, which would offer a separate seating area along with the balcony and then their top is suite they offer their explorer suite, I would say.
Customer: Okay.
Customer: Okay, okay.
Customer: Got it.
Customer: No, I think we were looking at the Nordic ten house. It's 269 square feet. Is that the one I'm looking at?
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): The Norri. Penthouse, okay.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): That is another option now on these dates that are available. I'm not showing that type of state room being available on this itinerary so those look like they're sold out for basically any of the dates in March, April and may.
Customer: Well.
Customer: Okay, so the only thing available then and the Ju, is, okay, then it would be the deluxe veranda, that's what's available.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Well, so for, for the April date, we've got delux available and we also do have penthouse ran is available and there is a penthouse junior suite available, and an explorer suite in April that we could look at.
Customer: Well I'm not, I don't care to go that but we were kind of looking at the pent. How Sanda is there more than one room available?
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah, so we.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah, so if we're looking at the April date of the twenty fifth they do have pen house rains available all the way down to the category three of them which again it's still depend has veranda it's just gonna be location on the ship. So the Pinho. Veranda PD three state room right now is pricing at a $10,499 per guest for the sailing.
Customer: And the?
Customer: Okay, and that, that's what, okay, I'm just scheduled. Yes.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): And then if we.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): No, no. What question do you have?
Customer: Go ahead. No, no, so that's for P V3 so then if you go down to a, I don't know, a different, there must be a PD or or something, I don't know, does it get more is it more expensive?
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Correct.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): On, no. So the P V3 is the entry level for the pent penthouse veranda that's available on the sailing. So, they do have a P, v2 and P V. One available as well. Which would just be at the difference in location on the ship. So, to give you an idea the pin has Randa. One is pricing out at $10,899 per guest. So, it's really only a $400 difference between those.
Customer: Okay, okay.
Customer: Cause in the book, cause I'm looking at this depends how, says it's discounted, it's $5.5951 million so I'm kind of little.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Are we looking at a different sailing date by chance?
Customer: I don't know what it is because I just got this book in the mail yesterday and the dates are not, the sailing dates are not available on this. So I don't really know.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Gotcha. Gotcha. Cause like, if we moved over to the March sailing date of March 4th the pin has rained, two actually dropped down to $6,699 per guest for that March ceiling.
Customer: So how much?
Customer: Okay, and what is the weather on that date?
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): We're still going to be looking at early spring type weather so, you know, it'd probably be a little bit more cooler than April, definitely probably less of a crowd that's for sure. So, it's, you know, we're just in the early spring portion, when we're, when we're sailing, in early March you know, so it could potentially be somewhat chilly. Maybe, maybe still nice but not gonna be as potentially warm as in April sailing date.
Customer: Is it would be. I would.
Customer: Okay, now the next question is what is the lex brand of suite in April?
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Alright, so if we go back over to April twenty fifth sailing, they've got a, a couple of different options for the deluxe for Randa available. If you wanted to select your own room then we'd be looking at a DV five. And that state room starts out right now in April. At $8,899 per guest.
Customer: Okay.
Customer: Okay, alright, that's interesting but the only thing I would have to do at this point is decide whether we want to do April or March and March is an option is March 4th with early March.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah, yeah. We can at least.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Mm-hmm, yeah.
Customer: Okay, I.
Customer: Yeah, I don't know, I'm just kind of tumbling can I just need to really talk to my sister before I do this and I want, I definitely want to do it. I just need to talk to her we, I have some other family members that may be interested and I had sent my brother a text and I never, never got back to me he was gonna talk to his wife. So anyway Linda and I have decided we're gonna book this and then we'll tell the others and if somebody wants to join us, well then that's fine that they're on their way to figure it out, so.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Okay. Yeah, mm-hmm I had you.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Okay.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah, yeah. Well, they can always reach out to me too because if their new guest to publish, you would be eligible for a referral bonus as well. If you send, oh, they're not.
Customer: No, they're not. See this I think, will be our fourth trip and then just got on a couple so yeah.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): No, no, no, I'm.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah, I'm saying if your family, if you refer your family over to Pavlus if they're new guest to us, you would be considered the referral for them and you'd get the referral bonus after you guys completed the sailing.
Customer: Great! Well I'm not sure I'm bill I think we'd be new but one multi that gate. So anyway, do you have a direct line that I can call you back in like fifteen minutes if I can reach her?
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): I'm actually almost done, yeah, I'm actually almost done for the day so I wouldn't be available until tomorrow morning but if you don't mind what I think makes the most sense is I let's, I could at least get a price hold placed for you for at least one of these dates and state rooms to get you an idea about pricing, so that you've got something to look at and know, hey, like this is what this trip would cost for the state room on this date. Does that sound like a plan to you?
Customer: Yeah, I yeah, I'm just suing because I, there is quite a price difference if we go in March.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah, no, you're right, March is definitely much cheaper.
Customer: And that's what's.
Customer: I just kinda sit back because there's such a difference in what the book is advertising and, and what I'm hearing and this is what their anniversary sale or whatever.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah, the.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Mm-hmm, yeah, the trick with the hard print advertising is Viking and most all travel vendors, they, their pricing is dynamic. It's, it can change and vary from day-to-day so I'm looking right now within the Viking booking portal itself. So I promise I'm giving you the most accurate pricing that I'm seeing today from biking but the March failing for sure is much more of a value than April sailing, it looks like today.
Customer: Okay, yeah.
Customer: Alright.
Customer: Well.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): So, do you, do you want me to not place this price hold for you or do you want me to get that taken care of and I can shoot you an email so that way you've got an idea about what pricing look it looks like for, for one of these dates.
Customer: I'm going to, I'm gonna, I'm gonna do it. I'm just, just telling but only thing it's holding me up, is, is speaking to my sister, and can you, can you call tomorrow Friday? What can you make it for both?
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah, well there's no commitment to make the price hold. Yeah.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): I would need to get your sister's information and all that first before I can move forward with anything.
Customer: She's in. She's already, she's already would be James and Linda bom Gartner. They're already, you know. They should have a profile.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Okay, yeah, well, I mean, I'm, I've got their information here. What I can do is let me just make two price hold for you. I can send you over some quotes for you guys to take a look at no commitment on your end. It just allows us to hold space and pricing for 72 hours on the sailing itself. Would, would you want me to do the April sailing then?
Customer: Yup, okay April and March.
Customer: And if we do the, yeah, let's, let's just look at it that way and.
Customer: And I, I'll call her right now and see what she has to say and then, and we can touch base in the morning. Is it more convenient for you to call me or me to call you. You're in a, you're in Albuquerque, right?
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): No, I actually live near hilton-head South Carolina.
Customer: Oh, you're on the opposite end of the country.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah.
Customer: Okay. So you're there early in the morning I was thinking you were in, in so you were behind us. Oh, okay. You're there early.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, I work at yeah, I work at 9:30 eastern to 6:30 PM eastern. So, if you're in Arizona, that means it would be 6:00 to three for you, 6:30 to 330 for you.
Customer: Alright, will you please call me when you come in in the morning at 9:30 or so and I will have made a decision.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Okay, yeah I can do that for you okay. So I'll hold off in on placing the price holds and then we can just chat tomorrow morning and decide if we wanna move forward.
Customer: And I will have made a decision.
Customer: Yes.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Okay, that sounds like a plan. I appreciate you reaching back out to me and again I'm sorry I know I called you today, so it must have just gotten mixed up somewhere along the way. Yeah.
Customer: Oh, that's weird because.
Customer: I've been waiting. You know, I called you at 9:30. Yeah, I'm sorry I missed it and I've been here all day. I mean, I had my phone in my back pocket. Okay, well anyway, we connected so, I will speak to you in the morning.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yeah.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): No, no, not a problem. Yeah, not, not, not an issue at all. Yeah. Perfect!
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): Yup, I'll give you a call whenever I get in.
Customer: Perfect, thank you so much.
Agent (Nick Bazzoni): My pleasure. Have a great day.
Customer: Have a.
