Confirm airfare release date in writing (agent said late November/early December for October 25 return cruise) and send Kevin the Four Seasons pre-cruise hotel details, cost breakdown, and cancellation terms within 24 hours so he can make a final hotel decision before submitting deposit.
Full analysis
What happened

Kevin called to finalize a river cruise deposit with American Cruise Lines and had one clarifying question about beverage packages. The agent confirmed they do not offer a separate beverage package (wine included at meals and afternoon happy hour). Kevin then walked through deposit terms, cancellation policies ($250 per person if cancelled within 95 days), and airfare booking logistics. He confirmed he wants to fly in October 18th (day before cruise) and learned airfare won't open until late November/early December. Kevin expressed interest in pre-cruise hotels and is comparing the Pavlus-provided Four Seasons option (~$950?) against independent Marriott bookings (~$480). He also mentioned recruiting friends John and Kayla to join. Midway through, Kevin vented at length about a frustrating Lufthansa standby check-in experience on a prior Viking river cruise. By call end, Kevin was ready to place the deposit, pending final decision on hotel arrangement.

Emotional read

Kevin is pragmatic and transactional, comfortable with cursing and direct communication. He's moderately engaged and ready to commit financially, but carries frustration from a prior international flight experience with Viking that he vents about partway through. He remains steady and solution-focused despite the venting, asking specific logistical questions rather than backing away.

Emotional arc through the call

Kevin started moderately engaged and ready to transact, then diverged into a lengthy venting narrative about a frustrating Lufthansa/Viking airline experience, before returning to pragmatic deal-closing mode on the American Cruise Lines deposit.

How customer sees Pavlus
  • neutral · agent acknowledged not being fully prepared on beverage package details: 'I just don't, I haven't really thought about it. I'll be honest'
  • positive · customer accepted agent's willingness to put note on file to contact him about airfare booking and coordinate further
Process friction
  • agent struggled to clearly explain cancellation and refund terms; customer had to read terms directly from website to understand $250 cancellation fee
Value perception

Kevin did not explicitly state a view of Pavlus's value. He is comparison-shopping hotels (finding $480 Marriott vs. $950 Four Seasons) and considering whether to book his own hotel or use Pavlus's arrangement, suggesting he is price-conscious and evaluating whether the agency adds enough value in that area.

Agent (Pam Chavez): Hey Kevin.
Customer: Hey, Pam, when 11 last question before I give you a deposit with American cruise lines, I've been looking on their website and I don't think they offer a beverage package. Does that sound right?
Agent (Pam Chavez): Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Agent (Pam Chavez): No, I don't think they do.
Customer: Okay, cause they that a buddy of mind when I want, he said they have an afternoon happy hour, you know, we drinks and then end up he said it's included. And he said, it you know, lunch and dinner it's Bere wine kind like Viking, so.
Agent (Pam Chavez): It's just included.
Customer: So, I just figured I'd ask a stupid question.
Agent (Pam Chavez): No I think that's, I think that's correct. I just don't, I haven't really thought about it. I'll be honest.
Customer: Tion yeah, I yeah, no I was, yeah, I was on the website on and has all the stuff about stuff we do and stuff we don't do and it, you know they said that we do not offer a beverage package. That's fine. I can drink their free deer wine. Yeah, if you want to put a deposit on this that works.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Yeah.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Okay, unfortunately they're like not so.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Easy bad doing I mean their deposits like refundable, it's not refundable at all.
Customer: Oh, okay. Yeah, we want to fly in a day early to on the eighteenth obviously. So.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Yeah, and, and until the final payment is made, and Eric could be booked and stuff, which is like, ninety days. I mean, I guess if you wanted to maybe.
Customer: So, okay, I'll probably do, yeah, I'll do it before that. Cause I wanna make sure that I don't give a flight that gets in there freaking midnight or something.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Make sure you get the right flight.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Yeah, so up to 91 days a hundred percent. Oh, that's with insurance standard cancellation. Wait, wait, wait, hold on.
Customer: Yeah.
Customer: Oh, okay.
Customer: Yeah, I keep reading cause I they.
Agent (Pam Chavez): A hundred percent money back refund. That's, I can't tell if that's with the standard cancellation terms.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Tonight, last serve change to 24 hours. You'll receive it to 2000 percent refund cancellation, Questa fee, within 24 hours initial payment after 24 hours cancellation charges apply, all cancellations can for any reason plan, huh.
Customer: Ms. by email. And it says let's see up before an oh, with no protection plan. So, if I can get.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Oh, here, here, here it is cancellation administration charges $250 per person will be applied to all refunds and the table above, so.
Customer: Okay, so for some reason if I do it before, like 95 days, I would pay $250 person. Yeah, that's not bad. It's a lot better than that. Some of the other ones like biking. Yeah, if you want to put a deposit on it, that's we can do that. And, and as far as them, no one, I want to go in, fly in that, on the day before is that just a standard they know that I'm assuming.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Yeah, yeah, the $500 to cancel.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Okay.
Agent (Pam Chavez): No, no, they don't, they don't know that once, once we make it the final payment, they're gonna send you an email. That if that as, okay, here's it's time to book your error here's what we can do or where's, or, or you tell me what you want to do type thing.
Customer: Yeah.
Customer: Okay.
Customer: Yeah. Okay. So I'm just, I'm gonna be stupid here. I can't even, they won't even open the airfare up till what, sometime in November for the.
Agent (Pam Chavez): When is the return plate, or what is the return?
Customer: It's, oh, oh, it's like October 25th or some shit, something like that. Yeah, should be the end of end of November, December.
Agent (Pam Chavez): The 2626.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Oh, I'll tell you exactly here in a minute.
Customer: I know you got you 330 day. Alright? Yeah, if you want to put a note on that just to contact me or something or and I, I'll put a note to contact you and we'll didn't, you know, I don't mind paying it if we can start working on the air fair or something. Yeah, yeah, cause like I said, it, it's on a Saturday, I think and I was looking at hotel rooms just now, just for the hell of it and, you know, Saturday nights big-time in Seattle, obviously cause they're not cheap but it's $480 at a nice Marriott as opposed to, you know, $950 for their.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Yeah, 1st of December.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Yeah, I think that's probably a good idea honestly but.
Customer: For their where were they gonna put me up? You told me. Yeah, alright, I can still think about that, right? I mean I'll have that I can, okay, alright, yeah, okay, you know maybe I'll do it and let them do the transfers and all that crap and I just find away of the forse alright.
Agent (Pam Chavez): That for four seasons.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Yeah, yeah.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Yeah, you had to, yeah, do the that transfer, get yourself to the hotel and the four seasons, I mean I would think that type of hotel would actually provide a complimentary transfer for the hotel itself.
Customer: Yeah.
Customer: Yeah, a lot of them don't cause that the Marriott downtown. I just looked at it and they said a tax is $50 or $60 just or you can take a light rail downtown but I don't know if I want to take a light rail that will see. So I'll find out where the four seasons is and, and maybe. Yeah, cool, alright, if you want to deposit it and, and you remember John Kayla he just went on that cruise with us he, I just talked to him he goes we me and my wife when I travel Mar, I said well you got to freak and do it. I mean he's almost 75 so I just talked to him this afternoon and I said I'm thinking of booking then it goes, oh, maybe we'll think about it. So I sent him the info so we'll see if they want to.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Okay.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Alright.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Yeah, yeah.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Right.
Agent (Pam Chavez): And it's domestic. So that might be a good, a good really.
Customer: Yeah, just cause flying the Europe I didn't tell you it freaking Luana did.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Yeah, I know.
Customer: These roten bastards. Part of my French here. We flew back business class from Berland.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Mm-hmm.
Customer: So, 24 hours before it says check-in for your flight so I go to check-in and it would, let me do Berlin to Frankfort and then Frankfort to Denver says you can't, check-in you're on standby.
Customer: And I said, what the, what the F. So I actually called Viking air because I could use a WiFi calling and the lady goes out, don't worry about it just go to the airport and they'll know panels so we go to the airport check-in and they gave me a boarding pass to Belinda Frankfurt and then they gave me a, one of those standby tickets and the lady goes, this will get you through security and I said, so what happens when I get to security she goes, you got to go to customer service and, and see what they'll do. So we do all that shit, it Frankfort and customer services go to the gate an hour before or forty minutes before they open and get in line because the gate assigns a seat and I said wait a second, I got to confirm business class ticket, you can't give me a seat and they said no.
Agent (Pam Chavez): What?
Agent (Pam Chavez): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Oh, geez.
Customer: So she shit we go to the gate. We stand a line thirty minutes, we get up there and we said, hey, we want to see they go well we can't give you a seat. And I said, why can't you give me a seat. And they said, because we assign them here and we haven't got to it and I said, so you can't assign me a seat. Now she goes, no, so we had to wait an hour and a half they were bored in the fucking plane parking my French here before it got damn with a, gave us a, a seat and it's like, and I said you know this is business class. I have an E. ticket that's paid for. So you can't give me a seat and the lady was, no it was a, there's a little German lad. He goes no assigned the seats.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Okay, that's good.
Customer: It's like, well what happened with the computer system. You know what I'm talking about it so it's like, yeah, so that, that's my take goona. So, yeah, I know you're busy. Cool, yeah, it is. Yeah, so if you want, if you want to put a deposit on it then I'll think about my own hotel or using their hotel. We'll see. Alright, thanks Pam. See you. Bye! Yup, bye!
Agent (Pam Chavez): Is.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Yeah.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Well, that's we.
Agent (Pam Chavez): Okay. Alright, sounds good. Thank you, have a good day. Bye.
