Full analysis
What happened

Mabel called to book a pre-cruise hotel for her July 26 Uni World river cruise departure from Amsterdam. She had previously worked with Rose (another planner) and was deciding between the Hilton and Apollo Boutique hotels, noting price sensitivity ($200+ per night). The agent reviewed current rates (around $320+ for a comfort double room) and agreed to research hotels closer to the port with transportation options, as Mabel worried about traffic and unfamiliar logistics. The agent also walked Mabel through Uni World's registration process step-by-step when Mabel asked about required pre-trip registration. The agent committed to emailing hotel options to her husband Bruce by Monday and to calling Mabel Monday to discuss findings.

Emotional read

Mabel began anxious and uncertain, describing herself and her husband as feeling 'blind side on a lot of stuff' about the Amsterdam trip. She became noticeably more confident and appreciative as the agent walked her through the Uni World registration process step-by-step. By call's end, she was warm and complimentary, even memorizing the agent's spelled-out name as a sign of engagement.

Emotional arc through the call

Started cautious and anxious about unfamiliar Amsterdam logistics and confused about trip registration, gradually warmed as the agent provided detailed, step-by-step answers, ending the call with genuine appreciation and personal connection.

How customer sees Pavlus
  • positive · Praised the agent's willingness to double-check hotel availability and research transportation options: 'I can certainly double-check I know when we talk about boutique type hotels...what I can do is go back and just see'
  • positive · Appreciated detailed step-by-step guidance on Uni World registration, calling out agent's helpfulness when confused about the process
  • neutral · Referenced prior work with Rose from Pavlus but implied Rose may already be unavailable: 'I booked with rose and I think rose might be already on a trip'
Process friction
  • customer received old hotel quote from April 3, did not realize prices had changed
  • customer prefers phone contact over email due to email problems, but original communication was email-based
Value perception

Not explicitly stated. Mabel appears to value having a planner handle the research and logistics of an unfamiliar destination rather than booking directly, but did not articulate this directly.

Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Good afternoon. Thank you for calling Pavlis travel, my name is Diane I. Guest relations, how may I assist you?
Customer: Hi Diane I think you're the person I need to talk to.
Customer: My name is Mabel brown, and I am meeting, I booked with rose and I think rose might be already on a trip. But I need to book a hotel prior the night, prior to boarding a uni world river cruise and July. And I think you sent me the one we looked at the Hilton and then that was real pricey, and then we saw the Apollo boutique.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Oh, yes.
Customer: And so I took a few moments to take a look on a website, you know what the hotel looks like, what it offers et cetera and I think it was like $200 and something dollars for that one night.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Let's see.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): I do show the apo. I'm looking at the quote that I sent you.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Oh, we're looking at the polo.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): So I think the one I quoted with was the lux double room with the breakfast included or one night. I can double-check and see if that price has changed cause they will. So let me double-check here.
Customer: Mm-hmm.
Customer: Okay, okay.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Okay. So we're looking at July 26th.
Customer: Mm-hmm. Okay.
Customer: While you're doing that, let me get my paperwork or my receipt on the flight because the next thing I'm gonna ask you after this is about transportation.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Yes.
Customer: Yeah.
Customer: I hear.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): You're still thinking about it trying to pull up the rates here.
Customer: Okay, okay.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Okay.
Customer: Arrive 815.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Okay. So if you were to go with a standard room with, without the breakfast included, it would be a little bit less. So we were looking at the double, so if we're looking at the comfort double room only, it's stating that it would be $33,024 per night.
Customer: Mm-hmm.
Customer: $32,044 per night. Okay.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Mm-hmm, and I'm looking at refundable nights too. Just to be on the safe side. I believe if we left out the refundable then it would be a little bit less.
Customer: Thank you.
Customer: Mm-hmm. Okay.
Customer: I remember. Oh, I guess maybe cause there was a price change. Does it just change cause as the day goes or, you know, I don't know, is it with the, with just the as we get closer or cause I couldn't get to my computer I have some problems with emails and, and after I had seen, I was like, oh, that was sent April 3rd or something. And I thought, oh, but.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Yes, I'm not certain eight, if I looked at the same exact room with the breakfast included, it did go down by $10 as well about $11. I'm not certain how they determine the rates. Maybe they need to lower the rates as we get closer. Like you said and they need to build the rooms but I know that also last minute reservations can cost more.
Customer: Uh-huh.
Customer: Mm-hmm.
Customer: Okay, okay, and I know you sent about the poa boutique. Were there any that were a little bit more closer to the port area, where we have to pick up the river cruise there. I guess my concern is I just, I don't want to be so far away that there might be a traffic jam or something cause I don't even, I still don't even know what time we're going to be, I think we're gonna have to be there by twelve or I think I'm just guessing, I think we have to be there by twelve on the for the river cruise. And so I.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Mm-hmm.
Customer: I'm just kinda a little concerned with a transportation and how far it is and let's see, and also if any of the hotels have like, just a, a shuttle bus or just, or do they have something available that we can pay separately or whatever we have to do that. They have like, taxi people or I don't know what it'll be our first time going to Amsterdam. So, we have no idea we feel very blind, a blind side on a lot of stuff right now. And so, you know, I just kinda want to know that it's a hotel that might be, that has some knowledge about the port and can at least get us there somehow with arranging transportation for us, whatever they have to do.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Of course.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Alright, I can certainly double-check I know when we talk about boutique type hotels, generally they don't have that type of service. But what I can do is go back and just see cause what if there was no avail availability at the time that I was looking and now there are so I can go and check and see what we have. What I can find with the distance to the port. Also, I just have to double-check the port information and then the transportation as well, just to see how far it is and what, what's provided for you.
Customer: Okay.
Customer: Yeah, okay, okay.
Customer: Okay.
Customer: Mm-hmm.
Customer: Okay.
Customer: Alright, will that be something like the Marriott or I know but this one. Okay.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): It may be I, I've worked at a few for like Hyatt and Marriott depending on where that location is. Sometimes the transportation is always included, you know with the shuttle, like you said. So I can double-check and see, you would think that if it's a hotel that's near the port, they would have something worked out seeing is that would be heavy traffic. So I can take some a look at that and see what's available for you and then if I don't find a hotel, I can check and see what type of transportation that we can look at as like a private transportation that would work for you. You don't worry about it.
Customer: Mm-hmm.
Customer: Okay, yes.
Customer: Mm-hmm.
Customer: Okay.
Customer: Mm-hmm.
Customer: Okay, that probably seemed a little interesting because we're going to be there in the morning and you know, it says that it's just all walking distance to a lot of little sites things and we're thinking about maybe, you know, just after we check-in and everything, get a little rested, we might wanna take a nice walk or something to visit some of those places. If we get a chance, I mean, you know, can calls on a Friday but you know, that was a, that was a, a, a how can I say a kinda like a, a nice choice if we were to stay there but and then.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Of course.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Exactly, I agree. Yeah.
Customer: You know it would make it.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): And you're by the water not too far from the cones.
Customer: Okay. I think it said it was twenty minutes away but maybe I read it wrong. I don't know, I don't think I did but I think they said it was twenty minutes away from what was it? I think the ports or something, I, you know, maybe I didn't look at it, right? Or maybe I was trying to look at something else.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Yeah.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Oh.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Worries it's in a.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): I don't speak that language but you're not too far from the water.
Customer: Oh, okay.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): I'm not saying where you're looking at it may be like a, an attraction that you may be referring to that? I don't know whereas it, like, I think the Hilton is more because you're right on the water. So Pallo is not too far, it's just a few blocks away so I can try to look around kinda like that area so that you can go walk around. That's a nice part, like you said, if you arrive Orly can drop your luggage off and GoSite see.
Customer: Yeah.
Customer: Oh, I see.
Customer: Okay, okay.
Customer: Mm-hmm, yeah, well, I'll tell you what if you could see, you know, I can call you back tomorrow and just see what I don't want to get emailed because I, we're trying to get my, my email to work again and but I could give you a call and, and you, oh, do you work tomorrow or would Monday be better?
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Okay.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Oh, tomorrow is Saturday, you're right. I do not work tomorrow but I will be here on Monday and I can follow up with you if you'd like.
Customer: Yeah, okay.
Customer: Okay.
Customer: Okay, that would be good Monday. So I can just kind of let you know I don't know if you need my unit world information but I'm gonna see if I'll have to you know, it's been a while that we reserved this and paid for it and everything and I feel like I need to reread it or something just to find out it what time do we arrive and you know at the port or that we have to arrive at the port and see what is it right here. I don't think I have it on here and also one more thing I could have foreign when I spoke with rose she said and don't forget to register with Una world and I'm thinking registers she says so you can something about to get my papers or whatever so, am I going to I'm a little confused in that area and I guess I should have pressed on a little bit more questions on her.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Oh, it.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Really? Oh.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Yes.
Customer: So to, is she, meaning that I get on unit world and register that we're going to be there so, that they could send us our documents or, or how does that work?
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Both. Yes, to both. So you register. Let me just, I'm going to go on there just to see what it looks like. But generally, what you do is register with your basic information and then when you log in, you can access all the information regarding this trip. And that will include probably your, the final document that will tell you where you need to be where to meet people. What time. But that is kind of your itinerary for the entire trip.
Customer: Mm-hmm.
Customer: Oh.
Customer: Oh.
Customer: Oh, okay. Okay, so then I need to get on the uni world website and what is it on the menu side? What is it going to be titled for me to click on it that I have to register?
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): I can look.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Okay, so when you go on in the world dot com.
Customer: Mm-hmm.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): On the far right you're going to see next to the phone number something that says already booked, so that you're going to click on that.
Customer: Okay. Oh, okay already booked. Okay.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Then click on manage my bookings.
Customer: Okay, and then manage my bookings. Okay, I click on that, okay.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): And then it's going to pop-up it says log into my unit world. It'll have an option for login but you haven't registered yet. So disregard that next to that will say register.
Customer: Okay. Okay, so it'd be register.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Mm-hmm you just need your it's going to ask for your name, email and then to create a password.
Customer: Okay, okay. Alright, and I thought I did that because I'm getting advertisements from uni world or no. Actually I think it's from you guys. No I think it's dies, so, maybe that's why I'm getting, okay.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Sometimes, it's both because if you booked a trip with trip with us with a vendor, they'll send something with our name on it. So it could be one or the other so if it'll tell you if you've already registered, then it'll just tell you to log in.
Customer: Mm-hmm. Uh-huh.
Customer: Okay. Alright.
Customer: Okay, I got you. Okay. Alright, well then I'm gonna do that today this evening and get at least this started and, and you said that I'll be able to look at my, my schedule and everything that's gonna go on, on the trip, as far as the paper documents, I have to have something in my hand to present when we arrive at the dock or.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): No, you don't, you could print them out now. That final document won't come out until it's closer to your trip depending on the vendor. Sometimes it's, you know, sometimes is late as ten days before the trip sometimes thirty days. So you have some time that if you don't see it don't panic it'll be there eventually but we have a few months yet.
Customer: Okay.
Customer: Oh.
Customer: Okay. Okay. Alright. Okay, very good. Well I guess you know, if you don't mind taking a look at some of the hotels and if you if there's something that some choices or whatever that would be great. Now, my husband's email is working fine cause I give you that to you. In case you do that may need to have my urgency, urgency. Okay.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Of course.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Absolutely.
Customer: Okay, let me, let me write it down brown @t..com and let me verify Bruce is your email, B. Brown G-B-T-C, okay, it's gonna be all lowercase letters and it's a B. And then brown.
Customer: @gvasinvictortc.com at Guadalupe valley telephone company is with a G. and that was DD, it was B. brown, it looks it has two busy but it has B. brown cause it's, his name is Bruce brown so it's.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Oh.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): I, yes. Okay, brown @gvtc.com if I do see something I'm not sure that is even of interest to you. I'll send it instead of sending you a list of everything. So if I do have any questions on it, I can send that to you unless you would like to see what I have come up with so far.
Customer: Uh-huh.
Customer: You got it. Mm-hmm.
Customer: Uh-huh.
Customer: Yeah, that would be good and you can send him something and he's going to be looking at his emails. I'll tell him, okay, so we'll be picking them out and I'm thinking that's pretty much it and I I'm guessing to that after they send us our final either ten day out or whatever documents. The most, the other important part is to find out what port it ends on August 3rd. Because I heard there are three ports and they kinda change it around because I think biking or somebody has priority so family from Germany is they're going to pick us up. So.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Okay.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Perfect, yeah.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Wow.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Okay.
Customer: Yes, but I have to let them know what port it's going to be in boss so they're gonna drive from set cards so I'm thinking, oh, gosh, I hope we don't bring too much. They have little cars there.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Yeah, okay.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): That's true.
Customer: We gonna make sure we just have one luggage and two backpacks. Okay, alright, well, alright. So if you, if you need to send something to my husband's email go right ahead and if not I'll call you back on Monday then. Does that sound good?
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Yeah.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Okay, absolutely, yes.
Customer: Okay, very good. Is your last name McConnell? Oh, okay. So that was, okay. Very good and you spell your name Diane, different with D-Y-E-N-N-A I remember. Okay, alright, yes, I need to get myself in award now for doing that. Oh, well I just, I guess cause I looked at a D. What? Oh, that's different Diane. Oh, I can see that then. Okay, well, very good Diane, well I appreciate your time on this and see if we talk to you Monday then, okay.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): It is.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): It is? Mm-hmm great memory.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): You really do. No one can get that.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Yeah, okay.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): That's.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): Absolutely, Mabel! I will take care of that for you.
Customer: Thank you so much, I appreciate it. Alright. You too. Thank you. Bye-bye.
Agent (Dyenna McConnell): My pleasure. Have a great weekend. Thanks, thank you, bye-bye.
