“I just because you know I pay a premium. Chase Reserve so we pay like $850 I think so, maybe $500 because we knew that if we have the insurance coverage on top they give you back $300 of it every.”
Next best action
Call Richard Friday morning (or have him call in) ready to finalize the ~$428 travel insurance policy purchase. If he confirms Chase will not cover pre-existing pacemaker claims, process the Pavlus policy immediately; if Chase confirms coverage, document the card details for file and confirm no separate policy is needed.
Full analysis
What happened

Richard called back to resolve an insurance question before booking. He's been trying to get a straight answer from Chase about whether his preferred card covers travel claims related to a pre-existing condition (pacemaker), but hasn't reached anyone. Susan offered honest guidance that credit card insurers often deny claims tied to pre-existing conditions, and advised him not to take chances. Richard acknowledged her point, explained his card costs $850/year but the travel insurance rebate makes it closer to $200/month net cost, and committed to either clarify with Chase or call Pavlus back Friday morning to purchase the standalone travel insurance policy (~$428). The call ended on a positive, collaborative note.

Emotional read

Richard is somewhat scattered and anxious but fundamentally trusting. He's juggling family obligations (daughter visiting from New Orleans), a health concern (recent pacemaker), and travel logistics. He appreciates Susan's candid insurance advice and sounds reassured by her perspective, though he remains a bit distracted and rambling throughout the call.

Emotional arc through the call

Started somewhat flustered and scattered (juggling family, health concerns, multiple calls), but warmed appreciably after Susan validated his worry and gave candid, practical advice—ended the call visibly more confident and grateful.

How customer sees Pavlus
  • positive · thanked Susan for answering the question and said her explanation 'makes sense'
  • positive · treated Pavlus insurance as a trusted backup option if Chase policy is unclear
Value perception

Richard implied Pavlus travel insurance at ~$428 is a reasonable fallback if his credit card coverage doesn't address his pre-existing condition, valuing the certainty of dedicated coverage.

Agent (Susan Bender): Hi Richard. That was quick. Thank you for calling back.
Customer: Yeah, no that's, I was, my daughter came up from, our, daughter came up from New Orleans for couple of days so we're kinda what, we're busy. She's off with somebody a little bit but I anyhow, I can't get a straight answer from I call chase, I called the, I try to find out who the insurance is that make right the policy for that for that credit card but I can't get a strat but I guess I'm gonna go over to but I can't do it today. I.
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh.
Agent (Susan Bender): Uh-huh.
Customer: I, if I can't get a straight answer from them and I think it, who's us to buy the policy by Friday on Friday you know. And, and just, and so, so my question to you is, are you in the office on Friday, are you working Friday so, if I give you a call in the morning we can just do it cause it's not that expensive. Then when I think, yeah, I, it's 428 or something, a person. It's probably that, that's probably a fair price. I think we paid for one before anyhow so, I'll do that if I can't get an answer then but I'm gonna go in either later today or tomorrow to the office and speak to the bank manager in my, what in chase, you know, by me and if they can't get me an answer, then I, and there's no nothing written that it's not because in reality, now I don't have a problem, well, in the in the sense, I do, I'm living with a mechanical thing but it's, you know, I can be.
Agent (Susan Bender): Right.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yes, yes. Oh, yes, yes, absolutely.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Right.
Agent (Susan Bender): I, and I'm, you don't, I'm no insurance expert, we're not supposed to get involved with insurance, but in my opinion, it sounds like it would be considered, they're gonna say if something happened and you need to file a claim due to anything to do with your pacemaker or your stance. They're gonna say, well, that's pre existing, you know, that's, and, and hard issues, are, are usually something not to be taken lightly, I mean, I'm glad you're all fixed up now and you're doing, doing well. But I wouldn't take any chances. You know. I just wouldn't but see what your card company says if you can.
Customer: Yeah, yeah, right.
Customer: Yeah.
Customer: Yeah, yeah.
Customer: Yeah.
Customer: Yeah.
Customer: Yeah.
Customer: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, so I think.
Customer: I just because you know I pay a premium. I have the chase reserve a preferred, a not preferred reserve so we pay like $850 I think so, maybe $500 because we knew that if we have the insurance coverage on top they give you back $3 hundred of it every. Cause if you use it for any kind of travel expenses you get that back. So, it's really only like $200 a month thousand you're getting this insurance. But I thought that's a good deal but if it doesn't work for me then I can switch it to them what their card is called the other one below it is a preferred and I think that's only 95 thous here. So that you know, anyhow I, I'm gonna find out either today or tomorrow. And then in which case I will then will you bye by Friday the latest in the morning and I'll let you know, okay?
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh.
Agent (Susan Bender): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Susan Bender): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Susan Bender): Mm-hmm.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Let me know.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yes, I will be here. Oh, my pleasure. Yeah, yeah, that's my opinion. Okay, well let me know. Thanks again. Take care. Bye-bye.
Customer: Thank you so much for answering it. Yeah, it makes sense what you said. Yeah, yeah. Alright, bye-bye.
Customer: Yeah, thank you. Bye-bye I will bye-bye.
