“I've never seen such a phone booking so full so far in advance. It's very impressive, very impressive.”
Send Edward the updated invoice showing Viking insurance added, and proactively email him a simple reference guide on cabin downgrade eligibility and refund timing (up to four months pre-sail) so he can monitor pricing without needing to call back if he finds a lower PD2 category option.
Full analysis
What happened
Edward called to complete payment via bank transfer for a Viking ocean cruise booked for 2026 at $13,000 per person, adding travel insurance. During the call, he raised questions about Viking's dynamic pricing model—noting that the identical cruise was $2,000–$3,000 cheaper per person a year later—and asked whether he could downgrade to a cheaper cabin category (PD2 instead of PD1) in a better ship location while keeping the price difference refunded. Lauren confirmed cabin changes are allowed up to four months before sailing and refunds apply. Edward expressed fascination with Viking's aggressive early-booking payment model and praised their ocean cruise expansion from river cruises. The payment was authorized and confirmed to be processed immediately.
Emotional read
Edward is thoughtful and inquisitive, asking detailed questions about pricing mechanics and cabin policies. He expresses mild surprise at Viking's pricing strategy but frames it as intellectual curiosity rather than frustration. He's appreciative of Lauren's help, ending the call warmly with thanks.

Started transactional (providing payment details) and warmed through the call as he engaged in substantive pricing and policy questions, finishing appreciative and collaborative.

Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): This is Lauren. How can I help you? Customer: You wanted my check you said. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Yeah, I call you, my phone is being weird I apologize let's see. Customer: Yeah, you called, you called me a minute ago or was that a bet call. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): I know I tried to call you and then it just dropped so I was just in the middle of recalling you so okay so we're going to add in Vikings insurance on for the 1099 with the check savings like we went over yesterday. Customer: Okay. Customer: Yeah. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): And let me get in here. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Alright, let's start with the routing number. Customer: Yeah, it's 121. Customer: 000358. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): 121 00 0358. Customer: Right. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Okay, and then the account number. Customer: 325. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Mm-hmm. Customer: 111. Customer: 638. Customer: 897. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): 897. Customer: Mm-hmm. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): The 325111638897. Customer: You got it. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Alright, sir. I will go ahead and get this added, and send you a new invoices showing it's been added, and you will see that money be deducted from your account right away. Customer: That's terrific. Let me ask you a question. I looked at the price. I looked at the price that we're paying for this cruise and for us it's worth it and I don't mind them the price but, but it was interesting because I looked at the same crise a year later for the same category and it was $2 or 3000 less of person does this. And but, but this time they ship full, of course a year later the ship is not full. Does, does vite, can do what airlines do and raise the prices. This is demand increases. For bard. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Mm-hmm. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Yes. Customer: Hey, sure is. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): I never really see biking like make the pricing less closer to sailing like a lot of the cruise lines do but yeah, unfortunate. Customer: Yeah, because I'm a PD one and thirteen thousand the same crise a year later is like a 105 in that category. Now I have reasons why I, when I take the cruise I don't realize I got the one of the last Abin we're saving a fortune on airfare by doing both an Artic in Australia, was we, you know, so there's a hundred reasons for us to want to do it but it's still, I've never seen that before, other cred lines don't really do that it by do it just like airlines do with dynamic. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Mm-hmm. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Yeah. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Yeah, and what we're seeing with biking is there actually, excuse me, their pricing can change like hourly, if it wants to, I've seen it in the middle of a booking. I've seen the pricing change, like a celebrity booking or something like that. They can always change. Were you looking at $27 or what were you looking at twenty? Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: Well, we not is, yeah, I was looking at 27 for the same cruise but we're gonna do the one in 26 but I was just looking, I just was, look actually what I wanted to do and see how much the insurance was before I called you originally and they wouldn't show it for twenty per my pris because the ship was full or just about full. So, I looked in a year later to see what the price of the insurance was. And then I saw the price of the actual cruise which kind of blew my mind just how much lower it is but you know, that's the way life is. I might haves, huh. Yeah, well you can. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Yeah. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Oh. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Yeah. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): That's kind of surprising now it will, it will go, it will go up or no, it'll go up. Customer: Oh, I'm sure will. The other question I have for you is, you know, we learn how funny Bing is because of what the little suni for last week and what happened and I, again I don't regret it cause I got, like, the last Abin. But my question is, if I find a category is cheaper that still in the a. P-V. Or a. P-V. In the front of the ship, cause we prefer being near the front of the ship and this isn't, is in the back, can I, can I switch to a cheap, a cheaper cabin and will they, will they make up the difference in the booking or do I like to lose the whole booking? Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): No, you can change as long as there's availability and you know, on that date you know, if it's you know, $300 more for it just depends on what that date is and that pricing but yes, you can go up a category, you can go down. Customer: Ing. Oh, no, no, no, no. My question was for that in cruise I'm on for $13,000 is if I find, you know, one category down like a PD two which is the same happen it just lower on the shift. They would adjust the price downward if the other one's like $200 cheaper whatever. So I can keep looking if I want a better position on the ship and it's cheaper. I can maybe save, save a little money ship. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Yeah, yeah. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Yeah. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Yeah, and even after final payment if you wait final payment, even, yeah, even, even after final payment you can still make changes up to four months prior to the sailing. So, if the price, if you see that and you wanna make the change email me and you know, you will refund you, whatever the price. Customer: Maybe not. Customer: Okay, that yeah, cause the way Bing does it, I'm learning is it basically they take the money earlier than anybody else that their terms are about the same so another equipment, so we can get a refund it just, they want to hold your money. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Yeah, and also like, you're paying a year and a half in advance to get these new boats in the water. So our new ships in the water, that's what they're doing but. Customer: Hey. Customer: Well, I've never seen such a such phone. If you want any other cruise line and invite me is so full so far in advance. It's very impressive, it's very impressive. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Mm-hmm. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): They know what they're doing. I have to say they went from the river now dominating the oceans, you know, and everybody loves it. I've heard their ocean cruises are by, you know, ten times better than the river cruises but it's very what you get on the river, you get on the ocean. That's what people, like, it's consistent, that's what people like. Customer: Yeah, some people, some people like that. Okay, I'll let you go. Thanks very much, Lauren, always appreciate it. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Of course sir. My pleasure. Have a good rest of your day and I'll, I'll make this payment now for you. Customer: Thanks, bye. Agent (Lauren Riesenberger): Alright, take care, bye-bye.
