Follow up with Richard within 1–2 weeks after October 31st payment confirmation with a 'trip countdown' message and probe gently about his mention of planning 'the other trip'—clarify if he's ready to discuss a land tour to Iceland or elsewhere, and reference Globus/Insight as pre-vetted options. Ask if he'd like accessibility notes added to hotel selections based on his northern Italy feedback.
Full analysis
What happened

Richard called to finalize payment on a booked cruise trip. Susan confirmed she has his credit card on file and offered an e-check payment option with a 3.3% discount (Richard had believed it was 2.5%). Richard decided to pay by credit card instead because his travel insurance is tied to that card and provides evacuation and luggage protection. The final payment of approximately $1,200.90 was agreed to be charged on October 31st by Joanne in bookkeeping, avoiding a charge until December. Richard then asked about land tour options and shared positive reminiscence about a Globus/Insight trip to Cuba a decade ago, and a northern Italy tour where he noted accessibility issues with hotel rooms for older guests. The call concluded warmly with Richard thanking Susan and indicating he'd call back with questions about future trip planning.

Emotional read

Richard is warm, personable, and genuinely engaged throughout the call. He moves easily between practical financial considerations and reflective storytelling about past travels. His tone is confident yet humble—he's comfortable discussing his frugal mindset and thoughtful about trip planning. By the end, he's clearly at ease with Susan and the booking.

Emotional arc through the call

Richard started transactional and slightly practical, then warmed considerably as the conversation moved into travel stories and personal reflection, ending the call in a genuinely friendly, open manner.

Agent (Susan Bender): Travel, this is Susan.
Customer: Hi, Susan, it's Richard. Kevin. How are you today?
Agent (Susan Bender): I am well, thank you. How are you?
Customer: I'm good. A little chilly, it's getting cold already but I well, that's alright. Yeah, anyhow, I got a quick question. I have to pay the balance on the, on the trip that we're checking. So did you, if I, do you have my credit card on file there? What is it like something I have to give you the numbers right now, you know, again?
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, I know.
Agent (Susan Bender): On the. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Agent (Susan Bender): I do have a card on file it ends in 2079.
Customer: And I think I asked you, oh, yeah, cause you put through the $50 deposit on that. I think we made sure that the date was right and all that. Okay.
Agent (Susan Bender): Right.
Agent (Susan Bender): Right now if you want to save 3.3 percent you can pay your final with an E. check instead of a credit card.
Customer: Oh.
Customer: I know but oh, I thought it was only two and a half now. They tell me that they reduced. Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, well, I think your grandfathered in though because you, this changed, it changed to two percent on October 1st and let me just look at your biking invoice cause if it states on there that you get the $3.03 then we're, then you're good to go with that. But let me just double-check.
Customer: Oh.
Customer: Mm-hmm.
Agent (Susan Bender): I think it's for bookings, made as of October 1st. Okay. So if you pay your final, with an E. check, it'll tell me right here exactly how much that would be.
Customer: Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): My computer's acting weird jumping around all them with the place. Okay, let me get it to H. two.
Agent (Susan Bender): H. one page two. Okay, so if you pay with, if you pay with an E. check your balance due would be $1,200,905.58. If you pay with the credit card your balance due will be $1.30035 million.
Customer: So it's for, so it's about almost 46.
Agent (Susan Bender): How about almost 400?
Agent (Susan Bender): Dollars savings a lot of people use want to stick with their credit cards because because of the points they get.
Customer: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's what I'm thinking that's a big chunk that'll help me, they'll put me over the lunch. I think a better rough pay with the credit card. Well, so, oh, you know why I have to pay with the credit card. I'll tell you why my, my travel insurance is through the credit. Right? So if I book the trip through that, I get all that trip, I get the insurance, you know, the evacuation, travel protection. You know, late, lot luggage on that crap stuff, stuff. I better do with that I think cause I was almost empty.
Agent (Susan Bender): Okay.
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh.
Agent (Susan Bender): Travel protection.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, good thing you thought of that, yeah.
Customer: I'm glad I had this conversation, it's good to clock it over but so yeah, so it's better than I do it that way. So if you put that through today that's fine by me.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yes, yes. Yeah, it is, it is okay we'll.
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, let's see when is it due, Joanne makes the final payment? She's in the bookkeeping department. She's gonna do it on the thirty first, is that okay for your cut off time? Okay.
Customer: Oh, okay.
Customer: Okay, then that's good. I, I'm good, because then I won't be billed till probably December. Cause what they'll do is my, yeah, so, I, yeah, I get an extra month that don't have to pay. I mean, I put the money aside for it anyhow, because that's how we plan our trip but you know, we kind of put aside money every, every month to a couple of months and we say, oh, we got all extra here we'll put this, so that's why we.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, yeah. Good, good strategy. Okay. Well, you're all set uh-huh when you, I'm sorry, what did you, what were you saying when you live most of your life?
Customer: Yeah, when you live mostly like, I'm sorry what?
Customer: I was gonna say when you live most of your life being frugal or within a certain limit, it's hard to change. You know, you say, oh, I'm getting old of, I don't just spend everything but you know when you live a certain way it's hard to do that you live.
Agent (Susan Bender): Mm-hmm. Uh-huh.
Agent (Susan Bender): It's, yeah, it's in grain. And you. Yes, I know, it feels funny just to spend but you deserve it.
Customer: Yeah, so yeah, yeah. Well some people do, yeah, anyhow, so that would be good and do I have to sign anything ahead of time or do anything else other than this?
Agent (Susan Bender): Okay.
Agent (Susan Bender): No, nope it will be, it will be done automatically on October 31st Joanne. We'll send you a final final invoice, showing your paid in full, okay?
Customer: Great.
Customer: Okay. And then I, that'll be good. And then I have one other question for you. Do you ever put together like a, a nice planned trip but not by boat, but like a land one we fly in hotel and they would, you know, do some toys?
Agent (Susan Bender): We don't put them together, we don't put them together here, but there are tour companies that have them put together already. They have pre organized tours globus globus and insight have that, so, you know, if you're thinking about a land tour in Iceland, look at, look at globus and look at insight, vacations insight. The case, yeah.
Customer: But yeah.
Customer: Oh, oh, wow. Okay.
Customer: Okay.
Customer: Inside globi okay I've done Lous cause we went to I think Cuba with them and Insan.
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, long time ago, yeah.
Customer: I probably ten years or more ago, yeah, but before everybody say, oh, you can't travel to cube or shouldn't travel. Yeah, it was a really great trip. Because it was, I mean, they were so happy to have tourist there and everybody was so good, it was a great trip. A great to, yes.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, yeah, they yeah, yeah. I love the people in Cuba. I went there on a talk tour in 2018. So about seven years ago and I loved it, I loved it but you know that the infrastructure needs a lot of work. Sidewalks are crumbling, hotel plumbing is not that great in restaurants plumbing, not that break and it was flat fly for dessert every meal fly plan, plan I was so sick with plan.
Customer: Yeah.
Customer: Bye.
Customer: Yeah.
Customer: Yeah.
Customer: Yeah, no, no.
Customer: Well, we had some interesting meals. I mean, they weren't like, you know, high and fancy you know, or anything but elaborate. But the quality of the food that you know, everything was, was pretty good there, I mean, you know, basic the fun. I will remember the first night we stay at the hotel, I walked in, it says only eight there, no air-conditioning B., it's so plain, it's like hot. I said, I guess, is we, but we adjust just quickly, that's okay, yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, yeah, not gourmet.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, you do. Yeah, it is a good experience.
Customer: Alright, well you know we meant to to northern Italy we did that trip without that you, we go through you so one of the places we stay in this theta Margarita it's a nice old hotel and everything, but some of the rooms they're like, you have to woke up a flight and a half of stairs or, half a flights. And, and you know some of the people like ourselves or a older and they have a hard time, you know going up the steps or whatever and need the elevator that and I said you know one of my comments when they asked for us in survey like was that when you have a group that of a certain age you should make sure that there's access, easy access into the rooms you can cause there were plenty of rooms that were book?
Agent (Susan Bender): Uh-huh.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, yeah, the stairs. Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah.
Customer: Booked easy to get to but there were a couple of that were and, and so, you know, that's the kind of thing that you always look out for and stuff, but, but, but you know, that, that's why some of these tours, yeah, they missed, you know, they just missed from it being perfect, you know, from being really great day they mess up on something but it's good, that's why they an survey the feedback so, they not directed. Yup.
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh.
Agent (Susan Bender): He. Why?
Agent (Susan Bender): Yes, that's how they learn, that's how they learn and could change things. Yeah, it's important.
Customer: Okay, alright so I forget, you're not in, in, you're not a Arizona, you're in Colorado now. Is that where, you right.
Agent (Susan Bender): I'm in Colorado. I live in Colorado but our office has always been in Albuquerque. That's where our office is, is. Yeah, well, I used to live there a, I lived there a long time ago but I've been in Colorado for a while now.
Customer: Albuquerque and I always switch you in Albuquerque. So, so you have winters too. You did Aro.
Customer: Oh.
Customer: Oh, great, that's great. Yeah, that's beautiful. When we drove closes country five times to go back and forth before we started flying back and forth cause I was tired of drive and I said, you know, from California through Colorado is beautiful country. And then the rest of it in until you get to like, you know, Pennsylvania or something, you know, and then it starts to get nice Colorado was it was every time we drove through it was so beautiful, it's such a beautiful place, you know, but yeah, anyhow, alright, well, thanks and I'll, if we have some questions about the planning the other trip, I'll just call you, okay?
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Uh-huh.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, it turns green again. Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, yes it is. Yes, it is. Thank you.
Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah.
Agent (Susan Bender): Sounds good. I'm here. You know, I'm here Monday through Friday, at least sometimes on Saturdays too but alright, good to hear from you. Thanks for checking with me. Thank you. Take care. Bye-bye.
Customer: Okay, thank you Friday. Yeah, yeah, okay. You too thanks, bye-bye bye-bye.
