Full analysis
What happened
Charlie called to explore booking two Oceana cruises: Monaco-Lisbon in September 2025 (on the new Laura ship) and Sydney-Singapore in April 2026 (on the Vista). Fia explained wait list mechanics, priority deposits, and guaranteed cabin categories. Charlie asked detailed questions about how guarantees work, the likelihood of wait list clearance, and Oceana's release schedule. Fia discovered Charlie had booked a Norway cruise directly with Oceana in April without that booking appearing in Pavlus's system, which they resolved by having Fia pull the booking details. Charlie decided to place the Sydney-Singapore sailing on a guaranteed B4 hold and wait list the Monaco-Lisbon cruise with a $1,000 priority deposit across four cabin categories. The call also included a tangential discussion of Charlie's positive experience in Japan and concerns about overtourism in European cities. Charlie provided updated credit card information and agreed to review confirmation emails before final confirmation.
Emotional read
Charlie was methodical and engaged throughout, asking detailed clarifying questions without frustration. He showed genuine enthusiasm when discussing past trips (Japan) and upcoming travels (Norway, river cruises). His tone shifted to warm when reminiscing about Japan and discussing cultural differences. He remained calm when confused about booking details or cabin categories, asking for re-explanations rather than expressing irritation.
Emotional arc through the call
Charlie began methodical and inquisitive, warmed noticeably when discussing his Japan trip and cultural observations, and remained constructive and appreciative through the booking process, ending on an upbeat note of gratitude.
How customer sees Pavlus
- neutral · Charlie booked the Norway cruise directly with Oceana online in April, not through Pavlus, and noted he received a letter from Pavlus afterward explaining obligations—suggesting some post-booking coordination but no direct booking relationship on that trip
- positive · Charlie expressed appreciation for Fia's insights and recommendations, stating 'thanks for your recommendation' and 'Good talking to you again,' implying prior positive interactions
- neutral · Fia noted she had not received Charlie's Norway booking details despite it being entered into Oceana's system; Charlie accepted her explanation that she was out of office and it may have gotten lost in translation
Process friction
- Charlie's Norway cruise booking (placed directly with Oceana in April) did not appear in Pavlus's system, requiring the agent to pull details mid-call
- agent unclear why the booking confirmation documentation had not reached her despite being sent by Oceana
Value perception
Charlie did not explicitly state his view of Pavlus vs. booking direct or using another agency. However, his willingness to work with Fia on two new itineraries and his stated appreciation for her guidance and recommendations suggest he values her expertise and personalized service.

Agent (Fia Bauer): Hi, this is a over at talas travel, I am returning your call. Customer: Yes we appreciate back. We're looking at a couple of Pross. Be like to book and what? Tell me how the white list works if you will please. Agent (Fia Bauer): Yes sir. Agent (Fia Bauer): So, with, with Ohana for both itineraries. Customer: Yes ma'am, I'm sorry I should told you that. Agent (Fia Bauer): So, the way that the wait list works is you can go on a wait list complimentary or you can choose to deposit $1,000 or $500 per person, and that will put you on the priority wait list. Once you put yourself on the priority wait list you will be able to see what number you are on the wait list st. So you'll have a better idea of when you may or may not clear the wait list list after. Customer: But, but you've got to give them $1,000 before you see that, is that what you're saying. Agent (Fia Bauer): That is correct. Customer: So, after I see it if I don't like it can I get my $1,000 back a week later or so? Agent (Fia Bauer): Yes. Yes. Yes, you can. So the pricing is not firm because they do not know when your wait list will clear. They don't know what promotions will be available for you when that wait list eventually does clear. So when you receive the confirmation of wait list, it will have an astronomical price, that's not the price of the cruise, that's just with the brochure retail prices until it clears and if it clears in a cabin that you are not pleased with, you can decline and remain, to either wait, stay on the wait list or just get all of your money back. Customer: Okay, thank you. Customer: Uh-huh. Customer: Okay. Customer: Okay. Customer: But your wait list within the category you pick B. 3C two or whatever, right? Or no. Agent (Fia Bauer): Back, so you can pick up to four you can pick up to four. Customer: Oh, you can pick up, up to, up to four categories. Oh, I got you. Okay. Alright. Okay, that makes sense. Also, that for the first time I saw some of the cabins had guaranteed on it. What does that mean? Agent (Fia Bauer): Correct. Agent (Fia Bauer): The guarantee means that they will not assign a room until boarding because essentially they have oversold that particular category and they are accounting on cancellation. So if nobody cancels then they guarantee that you will be on that ship in the minimum of that category. If not better. Customer: I'm sorry the minimum that category. What? Agent (Fia Bauer): If not better. So if you put yourself in a guaranteed ocean view and nobody in ocean view cancels before your sailing, then they guarantee that you will have at least an ocean view cat. At least an ocean view cabin, if not they would upgrade you to something better. Customer: Okay. Customer: So, want, say, the guaranteed again, I'm sorry it's a confusing category and I don't know if I totally understood it. So if it's, if you, if you, oh, that's right. That you're not assigned a specific room. That was it. Agent (Fia Bauer): So, they don't assign you a room. They do, they can just. Agent (Fia Bauer): Correct. You are not assigned a room until boarding so you guarantee that the minimum cabin you have is what you deposit it on. So, if you guarantee yourself in ocean view then you will have nothing less than an ocean view cabin but it possibly puts you in a better position to be upgraded to a. Customer: Okay, but I assume it probably goes by class. Be it B. Three B2 B, B. C4 and, and like that, right? Or no. Agent (Fia Bauer): Well, it depends on what you, what on what you purchase a guarantee. If you guarantee yourself a B. Three cabin, then what that means is that you will not be put in anything less than a three cabins, so you would not be correct. Customer: Uh-huh. Customer: You'd be putting something better than a three. Customer: Okay. Okay, I got you. Okay, so is that the same $1,000 to? Agent (Fia Bauer): Correct, because essentially at that point you are guaranteed to be on that ship. So you are right, you are depositing for. Customer: Oh, that's right. You're guaranteed. Customer: So in that scenario, we're just proceeding like, we've already booked something we're giving them the $1,000 upfront, or starting to make the payments four or five months before when they start making the payment or that whenever that final payments due, so, we're guaranteed on Crose we go ahead and book our air flight. And we just don't know our cabin number basically I guess that's what you're saying. Okay, alright, let me ask you this how much turnover do they have almost their cruises. I mean is there, is there a decent chance if you get on the white list that you're going to get in there or. Agent (Fia Bauer): Correct, correct. Agent (Fia Bauer): It's. Agent (Fia Bauer): It depends on the itinerary and really I mean, it depends on when you want to sale. I mean, we've definitely seen people the wait list and we've definitely see itineraries not move at all. So it really does depend. Customer: Okay. So but I assume that once, once I assume a lot of people put a deposit down but then come time to start putting the balance due down which is, you know, six months prior, five months prior, whatever it is, I assume that's when you get some movement out be that five percent, ten percent, twenty percent or whatever is that I assume that's what happens, right? Agent (Fia Bauer): I mean, we tend to see the most movement prior to final payment but I can't say that's the only movement we see. Customer: No, no. But that, that's probably the biggest movement I would think. Agent (Fia Bauer): See, we tend to do see them move closer to the final payment than anytime than any other time that is correct. Customer: Okay. Customer: Let me know what roughly what is your is cause there kind of a schedule that the Oceana follows as far as when they release cruises through this date and what month they release cruises through this date. I mean, they're usually about what a year and a half, maybe two years out. Agent (Fia Bauer): I believe all of 2026 is currently available. Customer: Oh, okay. Okay. But, but you don't have an idea which which monthly I assume they have kind of, a, a, a, a year and pattern they follow and then you say in October, they release these and come to fall, they release these or but I don't want, I didn't know if there was any when to expect to see, to see the new ones released. Agent (Fia Bauer): I believe. Agent (Fia Bauer): So, right now the only thing that is available is everything is available through June 2026, that was released in March. My guess is we'll see the remainder of 2026 come October maybe November. Customer: Okay. Customer: So they're probably they probably two releases a year then I was so. Agent (Fia Bauer): One is definitely the one in March is a bigger release, but yes, there's generally to a year. Customer: Okay. Customer: Okay. Customer: Okay. Alright. So, I want to go ahead with some of the on the wait list of our guaranteed stuff. What I do just send you an email and or how do you want me to, how do you want us to proceed if we choose to go along with that? Agent (Fia Bauer): Well, what are you looking at? Let's take a look and see what's available. Customer: We're looking at one in god, trying to remember the dates. Customer: I don't think I have it written down this sheet of paper bought upstairs with me, me one and twenty five and one and twenty six one of them is a. Customer: A money Carlo to Lisbon which is in 25. The other is a Sydney to Singapore which is in 26. Agent (Fia Bauer): And do you know what months and 25 and in 26? Customer: Let me think for a minute. Customer: 25, I think. Agent (Fia Bauer): Sydney, is Singa pur that'd be in probably like 26th of March. Customer: Yeah, I would think so and I think the singer pot one is I, that's the one that's in the spring. I think that's in like a March or of April date, I believe. Agent (Fia Bauer): Yeah, Sydney a sing, a poor only sales at that time. So let me see what I can find I'm not showing. Customer: But it had a, a fair amount of wait list on it even though it's still two years out. That's what kind of surprise me is this? Agent (Fia Bauer): It's part of the world cris, that's why. Customer: It's kinda like the Japan cruise we went on this, the spring that man, it was booked it almost as soon as it came out it have been booked for so for a year and a half before they Sal. Agent (Fia Bauer): I see Auckland to Singa. For. I don't see Sydney to Singa. For. Customer: Whatever I, yeah, the, I just know the one and it was all a lot of wait list. That was a lot of wait list with a few 22 like guaranteed categories. Customer: But it was you know, well received and very popular obviously. Customer: Okay, well, tell me everything I need so, so, so, so okay. Agent (Fia Bauer): Okay. Let's take a look. Agent (Fia Bauer): I'm showing, okay we're not looking at the same sailing because I'm showing 26th of March to Singapore, completely available. Customer: Okay, hang on. Do you get, you got one more minute? I'll go downstairs and I'll tell you all the information you want. Agent (Fia Bauer): Sure. Customer: How you been? Agent (Fia Bauer): Good, busy, busy. Customer: Good, that's good. You want to be busy, you hate to have the alternative. Agent (Fia Bauer): Oh, yeah. Customer: I, we're really excited about the Norway frod we're gonna take next June. Agent (Fia Bauer): Good. Customer: We booked that we're in Japan. Customer: Okay, let's see here. Agent (Fia Bauer): Do you have that booking number for the one in Norway? Customer: I can get it. Agent (Fia Bauer): Yeah, cause I'm not showing that I have it. Customer: I got it. I know what after I booked it online. Yeah, on the cruise you all sent me some letter and say, hey, you all need to understand that, you need to understand that here's the obligations just signed up for so I'm sure you had it but hang on I can get it for you. Agent (Fia Bauer): Yeah, let's take a look cause that's odd. Customer: Well, that so let's see Iana booking number. 3662194. Agent (Fia Bauer): You. Agent (Fia Bauer): 366-2194 and you booked that in April. Customer: Uh-huh. Customer: Yes. Agent (Fia Bauer): Interesting, 366-2194 I'll have to call Ocana. Customer: I've got the guest statement and everything else here. Agent (Fia Bauer): Give me just a second, we'll find it. Customer: Oh, wait a minute. I got a different booking number now hang on. That's the booking number they gave me. Agent (Fia Bauer): Oh, okay. Customer: Whatever, let, and for the same cruise, the booking number is 366. So I code it 2194. Agent (Fia Bauer): That's what you told me 368-2194. Customer: No, no, no, I'm sorry, it's the same. Yeah, same book it didn't change. I'm sorry. Agent (Fia Bauer): That's alright. Let me pull it up. Give me just a second and battling with the computer. Customer: I understand. Customer: I'll look for facility dates put you on speakerphone I quick what quickly. Agent (Fia Bauer): Sure. Customer: You have kind of stuff are you looking or you concret on that? Agent (Fia Bauer): Let's see if I can, if I can mot I ask. Customer: I think is you want one time. Agent (Fia Bauer): Well, I'm not a hundred percent sure why I never got it but I'm gonna get it now and send you all of our tables bodies. So I'm so glad you mentioned that because that's odd but that's okay. It's also entirely possible that I was out of the office on vacation when this happened so it may have just been something that got overlooked so don't worry about it. I'm so glad you said something and we'll take care of it. Customer: Okay. Customer: No, no. We booked it on the prod so I never talked to you about it. I talked directly to them. Maybe not that's the reason I. Agent (Fia Bauer): No, no, no. And, and that so what happens when you book it directly on the cruise it's supposed to come back to me but I was also out of the office at that time. So that's possibly we could have got lost in translation. Customer: Nothing. Customer: Okay. Customer: Okay, I just please, please give me a call if there's a problem I send, there's not. Agent (Fia Bauer): Nope, no problem. I just needed to send the information on myself so I can send it to you. But again I, I'm not sure how I missed this but that's okay we'll figure it out. Customer: Okay. Customer: Okay. You want, you want the month these other popes we're looking at? Agent (Fia Bauer): Yes, I do. Let's take a look of hold on. Customer: One is one is in 25th of September money, money Carlo Elizabeth. Agent (Fia Bauer): Okay. Agent (Fia Bauer): Let's pull that one at mony Cardo low to live in in September. Customer: Yes. Customer: And it had just a whole bunch of waitlist everything's waitlisted. Agent (Fia Bauer): That's on September 625 on the oh, it's on the Laura. That's why, that's why, that's the brand-new ship so that's why it's booking super far advance but let's take a look. Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: I both of might be on a. Agent (Fia Bauer): Yeah, so that one is completely on the wait list. But yeah. Customer: No, the other I'm good it's another new ship though. Customer: I, the, this the Fister ships or so? Agent (Fia Bauer): Yeah. Agent (Fia Bauer): Yes, Lauren, a identical ships. Agent (Fia Bauer): And the one, go ahead. Customer: You're ready put. Customer: You're ready for the second cruise, we want rent. What we wanna do. Agent (Fia Bauer): Yes sir. Customer: It's in September. I'm sorry. I be working at that's in st. Hang on. Customer: Here it is. The other one is April 26th and it's Sydney two Singapore, like I said. Agent (Fia Bauer): On April 9th on the Vista. Okay, 26 that's why it's wait listed. So the reason, the reason why those two are completely wait listed is, well, the first one on the Laura because it's a brand-new ship and that's one of the very first ages that she's actually going to be doing. So that's part of the reason why she's on wait list. However, let's take a look at the Vista Sydney Singa for. Customer: Yeah. Customer: Okay. Customer: Yeah, no one had some available. I spoke but I. Agent (Fia Bauer): Oh, yeah, that one's, that one's got plenty of availability now. Customer: Yes, yes. Agent (Fia Bauer): If it were me, I would have absolutely no problem doing a guaranteed B. four state room because with all of because this is, this is insider information here. Customer: Okay. Agent (Fia Bauer): So, with looking at what is truly guaranteed versus what is available when you book something that's a guaranteed cabin, essentially, they are required to put you on the ship. But the reason why it's a guarantee is because this particular category is currently sold out. So they are hedging their bets and we, and anticipating people to cancel because it's so far in the future, looking at what's currently available there would not be a hesitation on my part to book a B. four guarantee because the likelihood that you're going to be moved up into the concierge because that's available is. Customer: Right. Customer: Correct. Agent (Fia Bauer): Higher than normal. So, because I'm looking at B2 B. Three. Customer: Okay. The before on that cruise does wait but it's not guaranteed but I can buy a guarantee. Agent (Fia Bauer): Oh, I'm looking at it. It says guarantee. I'm looking at a B. four. It says guarantee for me, so. Customer: Oh, it's from what? Customer: And that's on I'm looking at the wrong fruit. Excuse me. I've got too many looking too many things. Agent (Fia Bauer): That's okay. Customer: Okay. I. Yeah, I see for the rooms I see before wait, list, but when I printed out but now it's guaranteed. Agent (Fia Bauer): Yes, I'm showing that it's guaranteed because it's, I were to say, alright, I've got three categories here that are guaranteed which means they're all sold out. The minimum that they're probably going to put me in is a veranda B B. Because that's what's currently available. So, I see that and then I see three categories of a concierge cabin that are available as well. I would head to my Ben and do it that way but that, I mean, I would save the $1,200 per person because you're probably going to get put into a concierge anyway. Customer: Okay. Customer: Right. Customer: I, okay, I'm. Customer: Yes. Customer: That makes sense. I appreciate that out, so I want guaranteed. Customer: Before okay. Agent (Fia Bauer): I'm yeah, that's absolutely what we wanna do and I'll go ahead and GrabIt and it'll go on hold until Tuesday I believe so you can take a look at it but there's no reason not to, not to jump on that particular opportunity. Customer: Okay. Customer: What? Customer: So you're gonna send me a thing for the guarantee before Sydney two Singapore, right? Agent (Fia Bauer): Yes sir. Customer: Okay, let's talk about the other thing when we get that resolved here without a wasting time. Well money car was Liz. So what, what's, what's, what's my best food there? Agent (Fia Bauer): So, yes sir. Agent (Fia Bauer): I would just go ahead and, and wait list any for categories that you would be happy in and we don't have to put a deposit down the second if you don't want to but it's always a good idea. Customer: No I don't mind deposit down, I deposit down just lets me look at what it gives me higher priority unless me look at long the wait list is right? No no-go ahead and dress the paperwork. Like I'm gonna give you the $1,000. Agent (Fia Bauer): Correct. Agent (Fia Bauer): Correct. Agent (Fia Bauer): Okay. So would you want me? Customer: I don't mind the $1,000. I don't, I don't mind letting them hold of $1,000 for six months or year to if I get a benefit out of it. Agent (Fia Bauer): Okay. I mean it's completely refundable. If they give you a cabin and you're like, yuck I don't want it, they will still give you your money back. Customer: Okay, so let's do it for a B B. through B. four. Agent (Fia Bauer): Okay, give me two second because on the other cruise I have a nifty promotion that I'm currently trying to give you. Customer: Okay. Customer: Okay, good. Agent (Fia Bauer): Yeah, we are doing that here. Customer: That's good. You all, do you doors take care of? Agent (Fia Bauer): Alright, magic number time. Okay, so yeah, there's no reason to not do a guarantee when the balcony cabin is the same size as the Concer and the likely hood that you would get Concer is higher. So we certainly are not able to guarantee absolutely that you'll be 100 percent in the cons years, but the math looks favorable. Customer: Yeah, no, I understand the logic you're using. Agent (Fia Bauer): So did you enjoy Japan when you were there? Customer: Yeah, it was, it was different, I mean, I really love the history and, and the architecture of, of, of going to various places in Europe. The pan was totally different but you didn't have that thing, you know, long history and beautiful architecture and, and everything else. But what it's amazing. Pan is there or the Spreen just people. I've ever met my life. Agent (Fia Bauer): Yeah. Agent (Fia Bauer): Yeah. Customer: And that island is just it's a, I mean, there's no trash anywhere. There's no feed anywhere. It's like par Paris and seeing all the all over the place, there's no rope there and instead of seeing a, a truck, no beat up truck or say submit truck for construction word drive it down the street it's got a brand-new aside and sides to it so it doesn't look look ugly. I mean it was if the different culture but a very a great culture to see. Customer: And very box are great but that's not why I went my wife and the other women a lady we're all inter of lasso. Agent (Fia Bauer): Well, that's great. Agent (Fia Bauer): Well, I'm supposed to go in November so we'll see if all goes to fruition so I'm looking forward to it because. Customer: But, but, but. Customer: You love, I mean, it, a card, working people. I mean, just very apple people, great society, and the city. It's just totally different than going to Europe, so. Agent (Fia Bauer): Oh, I'm sure. Oh, I'm sure. But I think it'll be really different in a wonderful way okeydokey. So, let me. Customer: You know, they're really, they're really Paing their tourism too. I mean, you can tell they haven't been having tourist and they were very long but, but they are trying to really push it and help their economy. Agent (Fia Bauer): Oh, yeah. Oh, and I keep hearing that it's really a great time to go because currently the gin is down and the dollar is incredibly strong over there. So yeah, there's, there's definitely so a lot going on over there and it, it's funny I actually got an email from the company that I'm supposed to travel with, going Japan is seeing an all-time surge in tourism. So, just, you know, don't be surprised that there's really long. Customer: Yup. Customer: Yup, yup. Agent (Fia Bauer): And I just thought that was the funniest email ever. Customer: Hey, that was another question meant to ask you about Europe, cause we want to also take a dur. River cruise, it other things. Are there's certain cities or areas within Europe, that I, I've heard some areas just overwhelm with tourist, they really don't want tourist and so phrases, people don't have a good time and so pack does that indeed happening in some major cities over there? Agent (Fia Bauer): Yup. Agent (Fia Bauer): It's definitely happening in Paris. We have seen, oh, and I think it's just because parents kind of got well I don't it's, it seems very standard for the French to me but that's being a little you know judgmental on my part. Customer: Okay. Customer: So, what I'm going palo ca about Paris. I'm more worried about Lisbon, Porto, you know. Agent (Fia Bauer): Oh, okay. Agent (Fia Bauer): I have not heard of any negativity right now amongst the river cruises. I have heard of some negativity in the western Medici there's like some strikes going on like around, I would say gosh, like nice to listen. We have heard of some stuff like that. We've heard of you know, a couple of. Customer: Tell me. Agent (Fia Bauer): Nothing like truly, truly, truly horrible. But we have heard of, you know, some people getting picked on I guess is the best way to describe it in the Medici Paris. Because they just with the Olympics and with the eightieth anniversary of D. day this summer. I think they just got really over saturated with so many people. And that's. Customer: Yeah. Customer: I'm, ing good but you here stories about Dennis. You here hors stories some degree about Barcelona. I just didn't know how prevent that was to the point where it's gonna, you know, affect the, your enjoyment of the trip. Agent (Fia Bauer): Yeah. Agent (Fia Bauer): I've not heard it in Venice. I've not I mean, I've heard it in like just kind of been passing that the Italians are not exactly warm to a lot of Americans but they really like our money. Customer: Yeah. Agent (Fia Bauer): But as far as I've not heard of any incidents in Venice, I have heard of some incidents in Barcelona, I have heard of a couple of incidents on in Lisbon but I've not heard of anything on the door, particularly and the door remains incredibly popular. However I don't know if I could say that these were isolated incidents or if they are part of a bigger problem because it was more of like a person in passing, saying something nasty rather than people actually being asli or stolen from or anything like that, it was more of just like somebody being unpleasant. Customer: Okay. Customer: No. Customer: Okay, alright, I appreciate it. Okay, so we're all set. You're gonna send me the information on these two cruises, right? And I'm gonna send you back I'm sure you'll tell me how to handle what you want me to do and respond back. We send them to me, okay? Agent (Fia Bauer): Yes. Agent (Fia Bauer): So, yes. Agent (Fia Bauer): Yes, what I'll do is, I'll go ahead and call Sianna I will go ahead and put you on the wait list and then I'll send you the confirmation, and then if you wish for me to confirm you let me know. And then same thing with the other one as well. I actually, you know, what the card that I have on file is scheduled to expire next month. So, if you do decide to confirm or go on the priority wait list at that time we can update your card. Customer: Okay, yeah, there, I can give it to you now and you know they update my account anymore you. Agent (Fia Bauer): Oh, sure! We can do that. Give me just a second. Let me get ready for you. Alrighty, I'm ready when you are. Customer: It's, my name is Charlie bush, not Charles, Charlie, and the number is 4100 3905 2914 0267. Customer: Expires 9:28. Customer: And the code is 776. Agent (Fia Bauer): Perfect. Alrighty, sir. So I will go ahead and send you a whole bunch of emails and I will go ahead and put you on the wait list and then all you need to do is reply to the email. Welcome Dano, and we'll go ahead and get everything situated for you. Customer: Okay, great. Thanks for your time today and thanks for your recommendation. Good talking to you again. Agent (Fia Bauer): It's my pleasure sir. You too, we'll talk to you soon. Bye-bye. Customer: Okay, bye. Okay, bye.
