“I think the idea of having the smaller group is better so even if it's more expensive, you know, whatever.”
Send booking confirmation once O-Day confirms, and follow up in early April (6–8 weeks before departure) to confirm Richard's decision on operator insurance after he verifies his Chase Reserve card benefits.
Full analysis
What happened
Richard called to finalize booking details for a May 2025 Adriatic river cruise with O-Day. He had three possible departure dates (May 7, 17, and 24) and spent most of the call analyzing which would minimize holiday travel congestion and work best for their international flight logistics. The main friction point was understanding how booking his own premium-cabin air (using credit card points) would interact with the operator's transfer policy and late-release air schedule. After Susan clarified that transfers only work if arrival times align closely, Richard worked through the logistics, ultimately selecting May 17th as the departure date, authorizing a $475-per-person deposit, and agreeing to verify his travel insurance coverage (Chase Reserve card) before final payment. The call ended with Richard expressing satisfaction with the itinerary choice and gratitude for working through Pavlus rather than direct.
Emotional read
Richard was methodical and analytical throughout, working through logistical trade-offs with calm deliberation. He showed mild frustration about travel constraints (California trip timing, difficulty planning with friends) but remained engaged and collaborative with the agent. No anxiety or urgency; rather, a thoughtful confidence in weighing options before committing.
Emotional arc through the call
Richard remained steady and analytical throughout, shifting slightly from cautious deliberation about dates and air logistics to confident commitment once the May 17th date was locked and deposit authorized.
How customer sees Pavlus
- positive · expressed preference to work with Susan and Pavlus rather than direct operator contact: 'we'd rather work with you cause we've always worked with you'
- positive · appreciated Susan's knowledge of air policies and transfer logistics, asked follow-up questions based on her guidance
- neutral · remembered Pavlus referral program exists but noted forgot about it earlier; indicated willingness to refer friends if they become available
Value perception
Richard values the smaller group size and curated itinerary over cost: 'the idea of having the smaller group is better so even if it's more expensive.' He also appreciates Pavlus as a trusted intermediary versus dealing directly with the operator.

Agent (Susan Bender): Hi Richard! Okay, glad we connect at this time. Sorry, sorry for the phone tag. I've just been on the phone a lot today. Yeah, it's good thing so, you have a couple of questions about May 7th and what was the other date? Customer: Hey, Susan. Customer: Hi. Customer: Yeah. Customer: Oh, that's good. Customer: Oh, good, the seventeenth and the twenty fourth because one of them the twenty fourth is a Sady but that's the memorial day weekend. No for 2025. So I'm just wondering. Most people tend to travel like a Friday you know, if they're going away for the weekend but it might just be that it's a, it's a real busy time to fly. I. Agent (Susan Bender): Mm-hmm. Yup. Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, it, yes, it that's true. Are you gonna book your own air or air with os? Customer: Yeah, I, at this point I mean I don't think they don't book it that far in advance do they, the airfare, so. Agent (Susan Bender): No, no, let me give you a heads-up on their air. You won't know your schedule until maybe thirty to 45 days prior to departure. That's when they'll send you your air schedule. Customer: Right. Customer: Okay. So before parts I will know wait before that whether we have enough points or something to book our own air you know maybe bump up with the business class or something like that. But, but do you. Agent (Susan Bender): Yes. Agent (Susan Bender): Yes, and we also book air so we can compare their air prices are, are pretty low. But that's the thing is you don't have a choice on the flights. You get your schedule late you know and so you have to deal with all that and you may have double stops that's I've seen that happen too with lot of sees. Customer: Right. Customer: Right. Customer: Right. Customer: Right. Customer: Yeah, double 11 stops. Yeah, so, so, anyhow, I that we could probably work you know, do that way before I make a decision. The only thing is I do remember like with biking if you don't book through them you don't get your transfers. So, I don't know if that works a way with these guys. Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, yeah, you, yeah, yeah. Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, well, I'll tell you they can't, if you book a flight, the same flight that they're using or something that has close to the same arrival time as their flight does, they'll take you complimentary. If your flight comes in two or three hours difference they will not take you, you'll be on your own. Customer: Right. Customer: Okay, yeah. Customer: Mm-hmm. Customer: Oh, okay. So that would be a complicated thing because the first stop is you leave, you fly to Milan and then you first have to get on a, a bus and go to this, the first city, stray stress and, and that's so yeah, that would be a problem. Alright, well, we can work that out because I can, if I know that we have enough points to, something to fly you know, you know, premium you know, regular or, or business class then we can, and they, we can figure out find out what flights they're doing and then I can just if there's something open and they. Agent (Susan Bender): Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Agent (Susan Bender): Mm-hmm. Agent (Susan Bender): Sure, sure. Yeah. Customer: Know from, on a, from oris day weekend, she told me to answer that. It's usually busy. It usually Friday. It's the busiest fly, Saturday, usually busy too cause this would be a Saturday evening. Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, yeah, it's gonna be busy is, the whole weekend is going to be busy probably, probably Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be the busiest fly fly dates. Customer: Did, did you hear that? Okay. Customer: Oh. Customer: It would be better for us to so that weekend do the Saturday before but if that's the problem then I guess we should book the seventeenth right? Cause the only other date then would be, there's a date. Agent (Susan Bender): Well. Agent (Susan Bender): Mm-hmm. Customer: Where is it? I think it's the, oh, god, no, I can't. I missed the is the date after that, the week after but that one I think ends up the thirty first that, that's going into June already and then you have your all your tours that coming through. So the idea was to go before some of crowds you know, that kind of says, so I guess. Agent (Susan Bender): The thirty first. Agent (Susan Bender): Mm-hmm, yeah. Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, yeah. What about may seventeenth, seventeenth, would that work? Customer: That's the that was the other option. Right? It's just that will be getting back from California two weeks before that I guess we could do, it's gonna be a quick turnaround and so we can update but I think this the stated the fighting holiday crowds like yeah, so May 17th looks like to be the date that we would book. Okay, that's the one we would. Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, I see. Yeah. Agent (Susan Bender): Alright. Alright, do you want to go ahead and, and get it booked and, and put a deposit down? Okay, let me just look in your profile and see if I still have a card on file for you. What about insurance. Do you usually get that on your own? Customer: Yeah, positive there right, yeah. Customer: We use the last couple of years, I've used, I have a a, a visa safi, a chase safer reserve card. The reserve card is the top travel card that has insurance included in the if you book and use them, you book the so that's the one that I've been using. Agent (Susan Bender): Mm-hmm. Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, okay. Oh, okay, okay, then I'll keep, I'll ask. Agent (Susan Bender): Uh-huh. Customer: So what I'm gonna do you just for, for the double checking cause that it's a year later I haven't used it for a year they always changing the and, you know, but their benefits are so I will double-check and make sure that I'm still covered for, you know, a cancellation and for when they call that paid sues and all that stuff on that, like. Agent (Susan Bender): Mm-hmm. Agent (Susan Bender): Yes, yes. Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, if you had to leave the trip early to get, come home for an emergency or something like that. And the way that, the way that Oday does it, is they put, they automatically put their insurance on the booking. And that way you could see how much it is and if you wanted to add it then you pay for it with SIL payment. If you don't want it then they could, they remove it at final payment. Customer: Yeah, yeah, yeah, like. Customer: Okay. Agent (Susan Bender): But if you're sure, if you're sure you're not gonna take their insurance I'll ask them to just leave it off of the invoice for now. Customer: Okay, okay, so I'll have Tyler. Customer: It's doesn't cost anything Ester to leave it to put it on. Right? There's no panel that I guess we so we. Agent (Susan Bender): No, no, no, it doesn't. And, and that way you get the details. Agent (Susan Bender): Of what it covers and everything. Agent (Susan Bender): Alright. And you'll see what the price is for that. I believe their deposits are $475 per person. At least the last two times I've worked with them. That's what it was. So and I do have a card on file that ends in 2079. Customer: Okay. Yeah. Okay, so that's what we'll do. Customer: Yeah. Customer: 7:20 six is, is the date expiration date? Okay, okay. Okay, so that's the one we would book. Agent (Susan Bender): Mm-hmm that's correct. Seven of 26. Yup. Alright. Agent (Susan Bender): Okay, and they will. Customer: And you said, I'm sorry you just to make sure you think we're absolutely beer off booking for the seventeenth and the twenty fourth. Agent (Susan Bender): Sorry, I am interrupted you. Agent (Susan Bender): I think, what I think is you're going internationally. You're gonna be as far as the domestic flights in the US those are going to be super busy cause it's a, it's a, it's a three day weekend and some people will take a quick trip back home you know, visit their folks, and, and then come back on Monday or Tuesday. Those flights for sure are gonna be busy. But I don't know about going internationally, if it will have any bearing on your international portion. I know that the busy time starts the end of may, going anywhere Europe, or anywhere else in the world, that's when people start to. That's when they start to travel kids are getting out of school. And. Customer: Right. Agent (Susan Bender): Vacation. Time is coming and they just you know, that's when it starts getting, really starts picking up at the end of may. So, I don't think there would be much difference honestly between the seventeenth and the twenty fourth however, if you're gonna use points. It may make a difference on the points. You know how you're limited to certain dates and things like that when you're using points. Yeah, it may make a difference there. Customer: Yeah. Customer: It was the twenty fourth. Customer: Yeah. Customer: Yeah, yeah, you know what. Customer: Okay, I was gonna say so if we took the 24, the only thing we'd have to worry about most flights to Europe or leave the east coast at night, they're usually an evening flight. Agent (Susan Bender): Yes, correct, correct. Customer: So, yeah, so we would, we'd have plenty of time to get to the airport stuff, cause, yeah, that's the other thing we're an hour. And let's say now a little over an hour to the airport without traffic. And with try, you know, on the weekend if we left on this, on the, on the Saturdays is a lot more traffic. But the twenty fourth I think is a Wednesday, Saturdays. Thank you sir, let's leave it the seventeenth, I think makes the more we use JFK. Agent (Susan Bender): Mm-hmm. Agent (Susan Bender): What airport do you? Agent (Susan Bender): Okay. Oh, okay, yeah, yeah. That's quite a drive for you. Okay, alright, so you want to go with the seventeenth and you can discuss it, and we can always switch it to the twenty fourth, you know, as long as they're still space on the twenty fourth we can switch it over to that if you later if you want to. Customer: Let's do the seventeenth, it's a good time. Customer: Okay. Customer: Okay. Alright, so that's good. So it's 475 each of the deposit and then we'll have to as we get closer. We will know I'll know I'll do some investigated work on the insurance. Make sure that I'm covered and if not, I can, we can always add it or take it off whatever someone. Okay, great. Agent (Susan Bender): Mm-hmm. Agent (Susan Bender): Yes, yeah, yeah, I'll leave it on there. I'll, I mean, I won't tell them to take it off until you tell me too, okay? Alright, I'll get you booked. Customer: Yeah, yeah. Okay, great. Yeah, and I looked at it. We're hoping we're hoping I, I've looked at some reviews and for, you know, for the company we've always got get a catalog from them for some reason, I don't know how maybe, one year somebody said, oh, we're looking in this trip, ask them for a catalog. So, now we get it all the time. We always look at it cause it's a nice catalog but we never do anything. But this one seems to hit the right places that we wanted to go see. So, you know, I think it's a, it's a good. Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, yeah. Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, you know, that has that's important. You find the, you find the itinerary you want, that's important, cause you can't always find it with every tour company. Customer: To be in the right place. Customer: Yeah, yup. Customer: No, I thought we would find, you know, I keep looking at, at the Viking river cruises and I said, well, we did this one and then we did that one and we did, af, for this one but not the other half but I don't want to duplicate the, you know, half of it, right? At some point we did enough of them that we said, you know, let's look for something else that we want to do it and I think the idea of having the smaller group is better so even if it's more expensive, you know, whatever, anyhow. So that's it. That's what do. Agent (Susan Bender): Sure, sure. Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, I think it's worth it too. I think it's worth it. I would I wouldn't do a large group anymore. It gets too crazy. Customer: Okay, well. Customer: Yeah, yeah, so. Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, any other questions? Customer: No, we, I think we're good so you'll book it and let us know what's, what's happening. What do we get a, get a confirmation from them? You have our email and one. Agent (Susan Bender): Yeah, I'll send you a confirmation. Agent (Susan Bender): They, yeah, they'll send it to me and I'll forward it to you and so I do have people that communicate directly with autos and then turn it over to me and it's fine. It's no big deal, they're pretty easy to work with but I'll send you whatever they send me, I'll forward it to you. Customer: Okay. Customer: Right. Agent (Susan Bender): Okay, it'll be a confirmation. Customer: Okay, okay, well we'd rather work with you cause we work with yeah, okay we, you know, we've always worked with you so we'd rather we it if, yeah. Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, I appreciate that and don't forget about our referral program I think I mentioned it earlier, people, people tend to forget about that. Customer: Hello. Customer: Yeah, I already called I called one of our friends that we travel with but they, they're not traveling overseas anymore and so that's one person then, the other person that I, this other couple and the wife back the wife she know his wife his girlfriend is, is the partner now is he's Italian. And we'd love to do a trip like this. But they have a kids to say well we're coming home this time and you have a graduation to go to didn't. You remember you have your grand child's graduation. So like you said I can't even make plans cause they making plans for me you know that like crazy double see. Well, if we, if we request somebody will definitely tell you. Agent (Susan Bender): Oh. Agent (Susan Bender): Uh-huh. Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, yeah. Agent (Susan Bender): Oh. Agent (Susan Bender): Oh, yeah, and it's always fun for, for, for you to have someone to have friends to travel with as well. People seem to really enjoy that when they go with friends or, or another couple family friends, whatever. Okay, anyway, alright. I won't keep you. Thank you for letting me know and I'll get this taken care of, we're going to do May 17th. We're gonna, I'm not gonna tell them to remove the insurance yet until you tell me too and I'll send you everything, okay? Customer: Yeah, yeah. Customer: Yes, right. Customer: Right. Customer: Right. Customer: Right. Agent (Susan Bender): Northern ally, I'm looking right at it from the out to the Adriatic. Customer: Right. And, and remember, no Italy, you know, trip, yeah, I know. Agent (Susan Bender): Okay, thank you so much and I hope you too have a good weekend. Thank you, bye-bye mm-hmm bye. Customer: Okay, terrific. Thank you. Bye-bye. Customer: Thank you, bye.
